As further context, the company is currently undergoing a far-reaching and sustained effort to transform itself by, among other steps: building a new 1,000-person office located in Boston’s innovative Seaport District, re-conceptualizing its portfolio of businesses worldwide (for example, two +$1 billion divestitures were announced in the past twelve months), and investing in new digital franchises to serve Millennial-aged consumers more effectively (for example, HavenLife.com).
OPPORTUNITY This market-leading financial services company is seeking a senior competitive & market insights leader to shape and develop the Company’s market intelligence function through: insight generation and proprietary market research, cutting-edge competitive research, exceptional collaboration, and best-in-class execution. This is a new role where the candidate will have immediate impact and the opportunity to interface with executive leaders through the organization. The position reports into the Head of Consumer & Market Insights, a senior financial services executive who is a former consultant and financial services strategy professional.
As part of the company’s ongoing transformation, senior leaders throughout the company are being asked to deliver against a bold new set of strategic imperatives. This new leadership role is critical to the success of this overall effort as, like never before, relevant and actionable insights into competitors and major market trends are being demanded companywide. The company is seeking an AVP, Competitive & Market Insights who can directly and positively impact the company’s “course and speed” through the creation and roll-out of compelling new client-facing tools and data services relating to the competitive landscape that can be leveraged by executives companywide.
The position is part of a broader, integrated team with the Strategy and Corporate Development functions. This collaboration creates unique opportunities for insights, impact, and team building in the collective pursuit of advancing the company’s corporate agenda.
Help define the competitive set and themes in the external environment, in collaboration with Strategy and Corporate Development
Drive the gathering and synthesis of data, including proprietary data around competitors, industry trends, regulatory developments, etc.
Produce cutting-edge competitor and market analysis for use by senior leaders throughout the firm
Assist in the definition and development of an appropriate content delivery platform for use throughout the company REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree required, MBA or advanced degree valued
A minimum of five years of competitive and market insights experience with advanced background in research and analysis; experience should be from a leading investment bank, ratings agency, an independent research or consulting firm, or a financial services company
Deep experience in financial analysis with the ability to glean insights from quantitative data / research
Expertise in life insurance or broader financial services industry – with keen understanding of competitive trends and drivers of performance
Ability to collaborate effectively with a variety of stakeholders
Ability to create simple, powerful, and data-driven written communications for senior leaders
Comfortable in presenting findings and insights to senior leaders
