Job Description

Under the direction of the STH Assistant Dean of Development and Alumni

Relations, the STH Assistant Director of Alumni and Donor Relations will be a key contact for donor relations and stewardship, the primary contact for alumni relations events and promotions while also serving as the primary liaison between students and alumni. In addition the Assistant Director will lead the class giving campaigns and be a key contributor to the Annual Fund strategies. This person will also manage the student employees and the STH budget details.

Donor Relations and Stewardship (40%)

  • Collaborate with STH Financial Aid Officer and DAR Stewardship and Donor Relations (SDR) to identify students to write thank you notes to donors not covered by SDR. Create customized donor stewardship packet with letter and students’ notes.
  • Respond to inquiries and requests for assistance from Asst. Dean of Development in matters related to stewardship functions by providing guidance, information or other support as appropriate with the goal of increasing the number of touch points STH donors receive annually.
  • Execute and refine strategy for stewarding leadership annual fund donors, tracking previous initiatives’ success and modifying where necessary to increase retention.
  • Perform fund inventory and serve as the liaison for the STH finance office to ensure endowed funds are being utilized fully.
  • Coordinate STH acknowledgment processes, including correspondence from the dean, Asst. Dean of Development, donor rosters and physical and public recognition.
  • Utilize volunteer structure for stewardship including Dean’s Advisory Board, faculty, staff, students and other alumni to thank donors with calls and letters.
  • Recognize donors in alumni communications.

Alumni Relations and Events (40%)

  • Assist in the planning and execution of affinity- and prospect-based events ranging from Dean’s Advisory Board meetings to professional networking, consultation dinners, alumni receptions in the U.S. and internationally, coordinating with Asst. Dean of Development.
  • Build a sustainable regional presence for STH outside of Boston through strategic all-alumni engagement in our target markets (Boston, New England, New York, Northern and Southern California, Ohio, Florida and Washington, D.C.) in collaboration with Asst. Dean of Development.
  • Coordinate all alumni events (over 40 annually).
  • Define and drive Social Media strategy in addition to collaborating on and maintain Alumni and Giving website updates.
  • Create, cultivate and manage alumni and community relations by creating public events and by forming strategic partnerships with faculty, academic departments, and other administrative departments with strong links to alumni.

  • Create events that our alumni/ae and community of friends and connect them with STH.

  • Collaborate with faculty and publicize their events to alumni. Implement STH Seminary Month utilizing faculty as resources to local churches.

  • Assist in keeping STH faculty, staff and students engaged and inspired to support STH

  • Collaborate w/STH administration to engage prospective students. (Dean’s Fellows alumni dinner, mentor program, etc. connecting prospective students with alumni, etc.).

  • Student/Alumni Relations: Serve as liaison between students and alumni. Develop strategies to better connect these two groups for the purpose of professional engagement development and for attendance at events initiated by students, faculty, and alumni.

Annual Fund (15%)

  • Collaborate with DAR and STH partners to plan and execute a successful class giving campaign. Recruit and supervise a committee of graduate students. Collaborate with committee to develop strategy and produce regular reports of progress. Help to energize student volunteers, coordinate and execute events, provide training for peer-to-peer solicitations. Keep volunteers and other stakeholders apprised of goals and achievement.
  • Work with Asst. Dean of Development on Annual Fund strategies for targeted/segmented annual fund appeals including a year-end appeal.
  • Supervise student worker fiscal year end calling to LYBUNTs.

Other duties (5%)

  • Supervise student workers (1-2)
  • Manage STH budget and complete or oversee all administrative office functions.
Required Skills

Master’s Degree preferred, Bachelors Degree required with 3-5 years of experience.
