Suffolk University is pleased to announce an Art & Design Studio Maker Space Lab Manager career opportunity! If you enjoy working with students and faculty in the art and design programs to support them in bringing their creative visions to life, then this is the role for you!The Manager works with students at all levels of their academic programs to develop experience and expertise with different tools and mediums in our dedicated maker lab. Suffolk is looking for a skilled communicator with experience with power tools for art and design work as well as 3-D printing and laser cutting. The Manager will also identify opportunities for collaboration and plan for the ebbs and flows of the project fabrications based art and design class schedules. The Manager ensures the maker spaces are safe production areas and are available for classes and projects. A critical responsibility will be to serve as the Art & Design departmental safety officer to ensure proper storage and disposal of materials (paints, chemicals, and other materials) and work closely with the University’s Environmental Health and Safety team. The Manager will also maintain the inventory of supplies and equipment necessary to provide a safe and creative space for students as they develop or hone their skills in art and design. The Manager also manages student work-study employees who provide additional support for the fabrication labs. The Manager partners with faculty as they ensure students have an enriching educational experience in their respective art programs and must be available to work occasional evenings and weekends as required.Join us as we advance the students at Suffolk University and cultivate future artists and designers!REQUIREMENTS• Undergraduate degree in art, design or related field required• 2-5 years of experience working in maker lab settings or equivalent• Proficiency in operating woodshop equipment and tools such as band saws, sanders, drills, woodworking tools, dust collection systems, etc.• Proficiency in operating 3D printing and production equipment and laser cutting technologies• Familiarity with graphic applications for 3D prototyping and scanning, and/or architectural or object design• Excellent collaboration, organizational, and time management skills• Experience with technical training and teaching• Demonstrated ability to work with diverse stakeholders• Excellent communication, presentation, and customer services skills• Demonstrated ability to work independently and troubleshoot problems with minimal supervision• Proficient written and verbal skillsSuffolk offers a generous benefits package including free tuition, paid time off, summer schedules, and more!Suffolk University does not discriminate against any person on the basis of race, color, national origin, ancestry, religious creed, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, age, genetic information, or status as a veteran in admission to, access to, treatment in, or employment in its programs, activities, or employment.Suffolk University is an affirmative action, equal opportunity employer.
