Overview of the Position

This position supports The Hartford's National Accounts and Energy business by providing actuarial guidance and pricing support. The National Accounts segment writes loss sensitive large commercial accounts that are individually priced, often with a tailored policy coverage. The Energy segment writes both guaranteed cost and loss sensitive programs for the Energy industry which includes but is not limited to power & utilities, renewable, midstream and upstream. Pricing these risks requires the use of complex WC, GL, and Auto rating tools. The role will involve working closely with underwriters, actuarial and segment leadership.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include:

  • Perform insightful account-specific analyses that enable the business to price new and renewal policies and to set collateral levels.

  • Maintain and enhance existing pricing and segmentation models & support the development / testing of new models.

  • Perform regular reviews of pricing parameters and trend study, while implementing efficiencies wherever possible.

  • Communicate the impact of model updates to leadership and underwriters.

  • Partner with Data Science on new capabilities to support the business.

  • Stay apprised of broader enterprise and industry trends and perspectives.

  • Enhance actuarial support to Segment Business Leaders, by providing timely and accurate views of profitability, performing deep dives that proactively identify business issues, and making actionable recommendations.

  • Respond to ad-hoc requests from underwriting and management as needed.

Experience & Skills

  • 4+ years of actuarial experience with strong analytic skills and a proven record of success closely aligned with supporting a business.

  • FCAS/Career ACAS preferred, but related experience considered in lieu of actuarial credentials. This opportunity will not support an actuary seeking continued exam support.

  • Experience in pricing P&C commercial lines.

  • Must be proficient in Excel; strong knowledge of statistical modeling techniques; R skills a plus.

  • Collaborative problem solver with experience working independently in a dynamic and matrixed environment.

  • Strong communication skills – both oral and written; effective at communicating actuarial issues and results to non-actuarial personnel

  • Proactive individual, with demonstrated creativity and innovation, who can drive a process to a conclusion while meeting critical deadlines

  • Strong customer relationship and influencing skills
