The Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) is an agency that represents an exciting opportunity to continue to build a coordinated, comprehensive system of early education and care services in Massachusetts. By providing and coordinating a range of services and assistance, EEC will continuously improve the quality, affordability and accessibility of early education and care in the Commonwealth. EEC seeks to hire a Communications Associate to assist in the planning, management, coordination and execution of all aspects of communicating the Department of Early Education and Care’s (EEC) mission, policies and priorities to the media, as well as to other internal and external constituencies and stakeholders in coordination with the Engagement Team. This may include providing briefs on internal and external issues of relevance, planning public events and drafting necessary materials, such as press releases and talking points, and managing EEC’s social media. The Communications Associate is also responsible for managing website content and overseeing any necessary postings from EEC to the Commonwealth’s public-facing website, The Communications Associate will work closely with EEC’s leadership team as well as with the Executive Office of Education Primary Duties Include: * Help lead the external communications of the Department of Early Education and Care and support the alignment of the department’s mission and vision through external communications * Plan and manage logistics of public engagements * Draft materials for external audiences, including, but not limited to talking points, press releases, and newsletters * Respond to external inquiries for data and information, including those from the media and public * Manage the Department website * Create content for and manage social media * Manage listservs and contacts for important stakeholder groups * As part of the Engagement Team, support and provide engagement with stakeholders Preferred Qualifications: * Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism or Marketing or related field * Three years of experience working in a communications role * Ability to coordinate the efforts of others in accomplishing assigned work objectives. * Ability to write and develop ideas, as well as give written and oral instructions, interpretations and statements in a precise, understandable manner. * Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships and deal tactfully with others. * Ability to anticipate difficult situations and act or make recommendations to prevent problems from occurring and/or correct the situation. * Ability to create reports and analyze engagement data * Knowledge of the organization, goals, objectives, and programs of the Department of Early Education and Care * Strong verbal and written communication skills, including experience writing press releases, website and social media content. * Media relations experience, including crisis communications * Ability to translate new policies and procedures developed by the department into concise communications to the field and other external stakeholders. * Strong organizational skills and attention to details * Ability to work collaboratively with others * Ability to compile data and writing from a variety of sources to produce a cogent product * Some knowledge of Massachusetts’ educational system. * Ability to work independently and in teams * Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, social media platforms, basic website platforms Salary determination will be commensurate with years of experience and agency budget Questions regarding this posting may be directed to Jillian Auerbach in Human Resources at MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must have at least (A) four (4) years of full-time or, equivalent part-time, professional, professional internship, administrative, supervisory, or managerial experience in business administration, business management, public administration, public management, clinical administration or clinical management or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and substitutions below. Substitutions: I. A certificate in a relevant or related field may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience. II. An Associate’s degree in a related field may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience. III. A Bachelor’s degree in a related field may be substituted for two (2) years of the required experience. IV. A Graduate degree in a related field may be substituted for three (3) years of the required experience. V. A Doctorate degree in a related field may be substituted for the required experience.
