Job Summary:

The Merchandising Strategy Manager (Segmentation Manager) will play a critical role in building and executing BJ’s segmentation strategy for Merchandising. This role will be based in our Marlborough, MA Club Service Center, report to the Director of High Value Space and Segmentation under Merchandise Operations and have key interactions with various cross functional teams.

The Manager is responsible for gathering data, performing analysis and developing a scalable process and structure that supports a total company segmentation strategy. The role requires a diverse skill set of retail segmentation, member insights, market analysis, retail and merchandising operations, and project management.

As BJ’s continues to expand into new markets the Manager will also coordinate with the new club success team to make segmentation and merchandising strategy recommendations that drive relevance for our members and value for BJ’s.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities, and Key Accountabilities

  • Develop and maintains a total chain strategy for segmenting Clubs to improve the member experience and drive sales while managing operational complexity

  • Identifies which segmentation strategies and approaches will be most valuable for BJ’s based on its geographical footprint and member base.

  • Creates a data-driven process for assigning Clubs into the identified, high value segments

  • Identifies “quick wins” to grow sales that will inform the longer-term strategy

  • Advises, inspires and motivates focused cross-functional teams to develop segmentation and assortment recommendations for the Category Merchants

  • Works with cross functional partners to develop best in class standard operating procedures for executing segmented assortments

  • Fosters an environment of teamwork with key departments (merchandising, member analytics club operations, finance, marketing, P&A, etc.) to ensure work is planned and executed well.

  • Manages standing meetings with key stakeholders to ensure project status and timetables are met

  • Presents findings and recommendations to Leadership Teams during key decision points

  • Evaluates market trends including vendors, competition, and member behavior (travel required)

  • Analyzes and evaluates segmentation models and results to deliver continuous improvement

  • Assist with ad-hoc analysis to support new market insights

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of merchandising and retail segmentation experience preferred

  • Demonstrated ability to develop hypothesis and recommendations using data analysis

  • Ability to develop large-scale strategies while willing to manage the details

  • Experience creating, leading and executing complex cross-functional programs and project plans

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with ability to prioritize the work

  • Strong communication and presentation skills

  • Demonstrated ability to build strong, trusting relationships with different teams and personalities

  • Comfort handling time-sensitive issues and challenges and rallying the necessary teams to resolve

  • Experience with PowerPoint, Excel and other analysis tools

  • Self-motivated and accountable

Up to 25% domestic travel

In accordance with the Pay Transparency requirements, the following represents a good faith estimate of the compensation range for this position. At BJ’s Wholesale Club, we carefully consider a wide range of non-discriminatory factors when determining salary. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, education, experience, and qualifications. The pay range for this position is starting from $90,000.00.
