MITRE’s Strategic Communications team is seeking a seasoned Technical Editor / Writer to support MITRE’s work with our Federally Funded Research and Development Centers. The Technical Writer will be responsible for technical writing and editing, including formatting technical and knowledge-based documentation for various audiences. This role requires an experienced technical writer who works well under tight timelines. DHS fitness and Secret clearance required.

Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or applicants who are eligible for security clearances.
Minimum of 5 years of related experience with a
Bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a Master’s degree; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
Edit technical documents according to MITRE’s brand guidelines, including voice, tone, and accuracy, and applicable government publication standards
Work in a secure and classified work environment as needed
Apply MITRE templates to technical papers, creating cross references, inserting/updating captions, tables of contents, and other references
Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and subject matter experts to ensure timely delivery of all documentation and other deliverables
Secure reviews and approvals with project leaders, subject matter experts, and senior leadership
Work independently to edit and format high quality and timely deliverables
Work successfully as part of a team and independently in a fast-paced environment
Communicate professionally with Strategic Communications team members and subject matter experts to clarify expectations of assignments
DHS Secret clearance -- We are currently filling two positions for the same role, one cleared and one non-cleared.
Demonstrated proficiency in technical writing fundamentals
Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
Project management, proofreading, and editing skills
A keen attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and manage a variety of tasks simultaneously, often under pressure and with tight deadlines.
Demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities of someone with five to eight years of technical writing and editing experience
Possess advanced grammar and editing skills and knowledge of 508 compliance standards
Conduct grammatical, spelling, punctuation, structural, and syntax review of analytic and administrative textual content.
Use MITRE templates, government templates, or defined templates as required
Advanced experience with Microsoft Office Suite and working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, including Acrobat Pro
