Purpose of the role:

The Aries Sales Director is responsible for driving revenue growth by successfully leading the Aries sales organization as it expands and transforms in partnership with Elsevier. This role will be based in the Boston, MA area and will require national and global travel.


Recently acquired by Elsevier , Aries is dedicated to providing scholarly journals with leading-edge workflow solutions (Editorial Manager, ProduXion Manager and LiXuid Manuscript).

This position reports directly to the SVP Content Lifecycle Management, Elsevier

Responsibilities of the Aries Sales Director include:

  • Managing a 3-person global sales team

  • Playing a leading role in major accounts managementand revenue growth

  • Working with Aries marketing to initiate andimplement sales and marketing campaigns

  • Participating in industry events as a speakerand opinion leader

  • Participating in the Aries Management Team

Manage the day to day sales operations

  • Lead and manage 3 global field salesrepresentatives

  • Analyze and report on sales performance versustarget and pipeline health

  • Leverage KPIs to understand the drivers of salesperformance

  • Recommend organizational and process changesbased on insights and experience

  • Implement agreed upon changes throughout theorganization

  • Manage the territory account planning process

  • Provide coaching and development to ensure quotaattainment and continuous improvement among sales representatives

  • Manage departmental overhead budgets includingT&E

  • Manage compensation and incentive plans

  • Oversee training and onboarding for new hires (asneeded) as well as existing sales staff

  • Capture market intelligence on buying habits,technological requirements and competition; systematically capture and share structuredproduct feedback

  • Play a leading role in writing and reviewing RFPresponses

  • Contribute to the creation of new customercontracts and contract amendments

  • Use Salesforce to optimize sales performance andintegrate with other parts of the business

  • Proven experience managing and growing sales teams and implementing strategies that drive achievement of corporate objectives

  • Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in a sales management and operations capacity in the academic software space

  • Excellent hands-on ability to demonstrate and sell complex SaaS solutions

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a strong background in both domestic and international marketplaces

  • Undergraduate degree required; MBA or Graduate degree a plus

  • Ability to travel nationally/globally 50%
