Position Description:
The Associate Director/Director of Business Development will play an integral role in shaping and driving the business development strategy of Oncorus. The Director will assist in identifying new and transformational opportunities for the company and will be responsible for driving deal sourcing, due diligence processes, negotiation and execution of strategic transactions (e.g. collaborations, licensing, equity investment or acquisition opportunities). The successful candidate will leverage prior pharmaceutical / biotech industry experience, and a track record in business development and transactions to execute on corporate goals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Support the development of partnering and licensing strategy
Lead efforts to identify areas of growth and potential collaboration opportunities by organizing and leveraging a cross-functional team
Develop business cases for various partnering/investment opportunities, including deal-specific financial analysis
Lead the full life-cycle of a transaction, including:
Develop - and execute on - an outreach strategy to prospective partners
Manage a cross-functional team throughout deal cycle
Coordinate detailed diligence processes
Deal structuring, negotiation and execution
Work closely with legal counsel on drafting and negotiation of term sheets and agreements
Deliver compelling, audience-specific scientific & business presentations
Post-deal execution, serve as business lead for collaboration/partnership. Monitor the effectiveness of the partnership, ensure timely resolution of issues, and progress against goals
Qualifications:
Demonstrated record of business development within the pharmaceutical / biotech industry and 5+ years experience (title will be determined based on experience)
BS in science or engineering required (understanding of biology necessary for success in this role); PhD and/or MBA preferred
Inquisitive, strategic and analytical thinker capable of conceptualizing, operationalizing, and driving Search and Evaluation and transactions from end to end in a timely manner
Strong team player mentality, capable of building relationships across organizations (internal and external) and ability to influence without authority
Transaction experience as a BD/M&A professional (e.g. investment banking firms, law firm, venture funds, or private equity), with experience in deal structure development, licensing partnership structuring, collaboration agreements negotiations, financial analyses, technical communication, transaction process management
Ability to manage drafting sessions and exhibit creative thinking and high attention to detail
Ability to perform in-depth analyses of technologies, products, therapeutic areas and companies, with an understanding of value frameworks and their applications
Driven and self-motivated, with high degree of intellectual curiosity, ability to draw insightful conclusions from analysis to build business case and tailor messaging
Sound judgement and comfort in high visibility situations
Excellent verbal and written communication skills to communicate across all levels within the organization and to external audiences
