Coordinate trademark and license programs and projects, maintain licensing database, process new applications and samples, and update company profile information.
Plan, organize, coordinate and carry out multiple trademark licensing projects concurrently as assigned by Director. Facilitate project-related meetings, including creation of agenda, intern program, and the preparation of materials. Monitor project timelines, deadlines, and notify director when issues arise, taking corrective action as needed.
Update and maintain the University of Massachusetts trademark and licensing website, including but not limited to policies and guidelines updates.
Evaluate existing online retailers and implement new online solutions to promote University of Massachusetts branded merchandise.
Communicate with University of Massachusetts licensees, retail vendors, campus constituencies, and others. Evaluate and approve artwork and requests to license products and quality of promotional merchandise for University departments, centers, registered student organizations and athletic groups.
Monitor receipt of samples, artwork, and proposals while working with licensees to create product concepts; performs retail market surveys, attends tradeshows as needed, represents the University and executes game day enforcement when applicable.
Monitor merchandise selection at local retail outlets and ensure appropriate merchandise is carried and displayed properly.
Maintain licensing social media accounts (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, etc.).
Applies knowledge of brand integrity and guidelines to ensure that the University’s brand identity, including trademarks, logos, seals and other marks are properly represented on products and services marketed to the public; reports back counterfeit merchandise and findings to Director.
Helps Director manage processes for enforcement against the illegal use of University of Massachusetts trademarks, logos, seals and insignia. Shared responsibility passed on as needed by Director.
Develop internal cohesive partnerships with University marketing & communications, the UMass Store, alumni association, athletics, academic departments and student organizations to support and enhance trademark and brand integrity.
Helps evaluate requests for new trademarks from the University five campus departments and research centers.
Perform trademark searches of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and Internet to identify conflicting marks, prepare and file applications for new state and federal trademarks from all five campuses and the President’s Office.
Maintain the University's trademark registrations including monitoring, specimen collection, enforcement and renewal or retirement of state and/or federal trademarks on behalf of University’s Board of Trustees.
Update and review forms, applications and Licensing Agreements as needed.
Maintain and monitor quarterly royalties, license advance balances and other account transactions necessary through SUMMIT software and online dashboard.
Communicate with licensees from UMass five campuses and ensure compliance with contract renewals, missing advance checks, licensee royalty payments and other necessary paperwork. Process and enter royalty payments into spreadsheets and make deposits.
Monitor the market to identify new product, service and promotional opportunities.
Maintain confidentiality and act with discretion for vendor accounts and sensitive University materials.
Perform other duties as assigned including but not limited to organizing brand ambassador program, student intern program, social media monitoring and office organization.
Operate motor vehicle to travel to work sites.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)
Two years’ experience in trademark licensing, including the protection, promotion, and/or control of trademarks and knowledge of laws and regulations related to trademarking and licensing is required.
Experience with and a base knowledge of legal contracts and agreements.
Experience in brand management and strategies fashion and design.
Strong analytical orientation coupled with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and convey findings and recommendations to all levels of management.
Excellent interaction and consensus-building skills.
Ability to resolve problems.
Effective oral and written communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with a variety of individuals.
Skill in performing a variety of duties sufficient to allow the timely completion of work assignments in an environment of frequent interruptions and distractions.
Personal computer skills.
Working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe C6.

The responsibilities of this position apply to the entire University System.
Experience in a multi-campus licensing program is preferred.
Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing or related field of study is preferred.
