AMHERST SEE WEBSITE FOR FULL JOB DESCRIPTION Cataloging Specialist Job Description: Amherst College invites applications for the Cataloging Specialist position. The Cataloging Specialist is a full-time, year-round position, starting at \$21.93 per hour - commensurate with experience. The Cataloging Specialist supports the research and coursework of students and faculty by describing and providing access to diverse, inclusive, and accessible resources in the Library\'s print and online collections. Works closely with the Cataloging & Metadata Librarian to ensure timely turnaround, efficient workflows and high quality service for acquired materials. Trains and supervises student processing assistants. Participates fully as a member of the Collection Management department, including collaborating on departmental workflows. Qualifications: Required Associate\'s Degree, or 3-5 years experience in lieu of degree Library work experience including familiarity with an integrated library system (such as FOLIO, Alma, etc.) Demonstrated close attention to detail along with managing tasks efficiently and effectively Demonstrated analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues from all library departments Proficient computer skills and demonstrated ability to learn and apply new technologies to existing operations Demonstrated commitment to effectively supporting a broadly diverse and intentionally inclusive community Preferred Bachelor\'s Degree Knowledge of MARC fields and bibliographic records Working knowledge of one or more foreign languages Experience providing supervision or training Amherst College offers many opportunities for professional growth and development, continued learning, and career advancement. Summary of Responsibilities: Cataloging Independently performs copy cataloging for newly acquired materials in a variety of formats including books, ebooks, films, and sound recordings Expedites items requested for course reserves or faculty/student research, and balances priorities to ensure consistent cataloging of all types of materials including firm orders, standing orders, approval plans, and gifts Reviews and updates MARC bibliographic records in FOLIO and OCLC to conform to local practices, Five College policies, and national standards Reviews and updates holdings and item records in FOLIO to ensure that correct location and copy-specific information display in our catalog Catalog maintenance Troubleshoots materials sent up by Access Services because of cataloging issues hysical processing Delivers expedited materials to Access Services daily, and delivers regularly processed materials as they are ready Book repair Troubleshoots materials sent up by Access Services because of physical condition Supervision of student assistant(s) Hires and trains a diverse group of student assistants to help with physical processing and/or book repair Provides quality control for work done by student assistants
