The Journalism Department at the University of Massachusetts Amherst is accepting applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in strategic communication set to begin on September 1, 2019. The ideal candidate will be a scholar with potential for a robust research program and will be instrumental in creating a new strategic communication curriculum, with the goal of establishing a concentration within the journalism major.
The successful candidate will teach a 2/2 course load and should have the ability to teach subject matter in one or more of the following areas: strategic communication and/or public relations, public relations practice, data analytics, ethics, and writing/content creation. We are open to quality candidates across research interests and methods and particularly encourage candidates to apply with research agendas that include one or more of the following topics: public affairs, reputation management, crisis communication, social media strategy, the use of big data in strategic communication, misinformation campaigns and public policy, public health communication and science and technology studies.
The Journalism Department is a collegial and dynamic group within the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences. Our focus is on quality undergraduate education, with a growing research profile in data analytics, media distribution and social justice topics.
We are seeking talented applicants qualified for an assistant professor position. Under exceptional circumstances, highly qualified candidates at other ranks may receive consideration.
Applicants should have a Ph.D. with a focus in strategic communications, public relations, mass communication or a closely related field. ABD, with expected completion by August 31, 2019, will be considered. Candidates with previous college teaching experience and/or professional experience in public relations are encouraged to apply.
