Job Summary

The Assistant Director for Career Analytics and Communications will oversee the collection and analysis of career-related data and will communicate findings to multiple stakeholders such as the Associate Provost, Directors of the eight decentralized career centers, Deans, Department Heads, current and prospective students, parents, and employers. The Assistant Director for Career Analytics and Communications collaborates with the Career Center Directors to identify and collect key information that will be used in strategic decision-making such as efficacy of career programming, first destination information, internship and co-op placements, salary information, and demographic data.

Essential Functions

  • Use database query, export, and reporting tools to extract, manipulate, analyze, visualize and report data, trends and patterns

  • Synthesize information and develop key findings that will drive strategic decision making

  • Create visually appealing and easy-to-read reports that inform leadership and partners of results

  • Collaborate with University Relations to develop both online and paper marketing materials that are consistent with the UMass brand and messaging

  • Utilize social media and technology to brand career communities and increase awareness of career resources, programs, opportunities, and meaningful connections between students and alumni

  • Leverage analytics to support the goals of the Career Centers including assessing existing programs and making recommendations for improvement and developing new programs that increase student and employer participation and engagement

  • Review gaps in data and recommend changes to processes/procedures in order to better perform data analytics and deliver results

  • Contribute to the evaluation of vendors and analysis tools

  • Maintain proficiency and continuously develop expertise in new developments in the reporting and analytics field

  • Work closely with the Office of Information Technologies to define parameters for data use campus-wide

  • Provide operational support to Director of Career Hub and Associate Director for Employer Relations

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Bachelor's degree with at least two years of experience in data analytics and communications

  • High degree of technical ability and hands-on experience with data mining solutions

  • Demonstrated ability in using data visualization software and tools, creating visualizations for presentations, etc.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with databases, MS Excel and relevant software for extracting, managing, manipulating, aggregating, analyzing, visualizing, and reporting data

  • Intellectually curious with an interest in predicting behavior using demographic and activity data

  • Have prior experience with career services or a strong desire to understand how reporting and analytics is being utilized to enhance and improve these efforts at other organizations

  • Self-motivated with a strong orientation for customer service and the ability to explain sophisticated technical concepts to all levels of colleagues

Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Experience using Handshake software

  • Experience using FMPro database

  • Experience using InDesign

  • Proficiency in SQL or other database query tools and relational databases as well as knowledge of report writing and web design

  • Experience in statistical analysis including descriptive analytics, univariate and multivariate analysis, regression and correlation analysis, and analysis of variance
