We currently have a position open for a National Practice Leader, Taft-Hartley within our Strategic Relationship Management group.

Role Description:

The National Practice Leader is responsible for providing direct leadership to a team of Strategic Relationship Managers- with matrixed influence over segment specific ERISA,Strategic Communications Consulting and Administration- in developing and executing a strategic business plan to promote the sustainability, growth, and profitability of the Taft-Hartley Practice in line with John Hancock Retirement Plan Services goals and objectives.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

National Practice Management

  • Develops and executes National Practice business plan strategy in support of JH RPS enterprise goals and objectives

  • Actively manages Practice as its own P&L within the broader RPS business

  • Partners with marketing and product to represent Taft-Hartley specific needs in development and promotion of content to establish RPS/Practice as a thought leader in the retirement industry

  • Represents the business in industry forums, conferences, and other branding/promotional opportunities as needed

  • Understands and applies a comprehensive data/metric set for the region, including: client loyalty ratings, asset/revenue persistency, opportunity pipeline, at-risk situations, profitability, and results against goals and expectations

  • Engages with key internal partners to institutionalize best practices

  • Advocates for other Practice needs across the business

People Management

  • Hires, motivates, and develops members of the Practice

  • Drives engagement, teambuilding and collaboration, including with sales and distribution partners

  • Provides ongoing performance and talent management focus in line with our high performance culture expectations

  • Aligns development plans, training, and coaching to broader business goals and objectives

Client Management

  • Has strategic responsibility for all clients in the practice, including their overall experience, loyalty, retention, and profitability

  • Develops and maintains strategic relationships with key clients; serves as senior RPS contact for key client relationships across the Practice, has overall responsibility for the Taft-Hartley Clien t Advisory Board which represents a broad spectrum of our clients and professionals

  • Supports members of Practice in development of client-level strategies; as needed, provides senior level support in critical client negotiations

  • Drives best practices on strategic account management and planning, and consultative selling strategies

  • Maintains overall responsibility for client P&L decisions, including revenue enhancements, concessions, etc.

  • Provides leadership in prioritization of client work and capacity planning across Regional Practice

Business Development

  • Engages with Sales in support of market and business development initiatives

  • In partnership with Sales, identifies and supports development of key advisor relationships in assigned region

  • In partnership with Sales, provides strategic input and leadership on new business pricing decisions

  • Says abreast of market and competitive offerings to effectively position/differentiate RPS

  • Exhibits deep understanding of key features and benefits of RPS and John Hancock products and services


  • 15 years retirement or financial services industry experience

  • Relationship Management and/or Sales Management experience

  • Visionary leader

  • Strong/effective communicator

  • Proven ability to engage teams and inspire/motivate

  • Strong business acumen

  • Strong executive presence and presentation/communication skills

  • Strong results orientation

  • MBA or other advanced degree a plus

  • FINRA 6, 63, 24

  • Ability to obtain State Insurance Licensing within 3 months
