Job Description

Waltham, MA - The Product Manager, Life Science will serve our customer and sales staff by providing product and applications support for an assigned group of Life Science Microscopy products throughout OCA. The incumbent will continuously evaluate emerging products, technologies and markets and provide competitive analyses; propose product modifications/additions and develop and implement new product business plans; support internal and external marketing functions; conduct workshops, seminars and training courses for customers and approved sales channels. He/She will create marketing communications collateral such as applications articles, videos and product bulletins to support sales activities, website development and social media. The incumbent will support and manage national or local trade shows as assigned. He/She will evaluate and define market share and assigned product positioning within the OCA markets. The incumbent will be responsible for the following key result areas: 1) Serving our customer whether that be an external customer or our sales staff. This involves technical, promotional and logistics support. This requires technical knowledge and an understanding of the how Olympus processes work. Success in this area will be defined by OCA achieving its financial goals and general satisfaction from our external and internal customers. 2) Creation of marketing communication content for website and social media platforms. A regular stream of educational content is key to establishing our position as a resource in the life science market. Success in this area will be demonstrated in response to the pieces that are created and in both the quantity and quality of materials created 3) A clear understanding of the market for your products including competitive analysis, market share, future trends, product development plans and voice of sales and voice of customer. The success of this item will be demonstrated by the Product Manager being positioned to take a lead role in product development discussions with Olympus Tokyo and Olympus Soft Imaging Solutions. Job Duties:

  • Provide product and applications support for assigned Life Sciences microscope products and accessories.

  • Create business plan and product introduction plans for assigned products.

  • Collect and report VOC (Voice of Customer) and/or VOS (Voice of Sales) to Olympus Headquarters in Tokyo, Japan for new product development.

  • Create and coordinate marketing communications plans with Marketing Communication team for our advertisement/promotional program for Life Science products.

  • Provide hands-on technical support for assigned Life Science products. Including set-up, demonstration, and technical consultation with end-users and collaborative partners.

  • Prepare the necessary sales tools and materials for new model introduction.

  • Prepare and create promotional and informational materials for publications such as white papers, journal articles, applications bulletins and marketing news bulletins.

  • Develop and conduct technical workshops, seminars and training courses in product use and applications for customers, approved sales channels.

  • Independently and continuously, evaluate emerging technologies and new products for competitive analysis, and for potential incorporation into the Olympus product portfolio.

  • Develop and implement business plans for new products as directed by management.

  • Plan and execute launch of assigned new products in accordance with current OCA procedures.

  • Lead trade show exhibit booth as marketing captain, as assigned.

  • Maintain regular communication with leading researchers and other companies, to acquire technical and marketing information; digest, analyze and report this information to management as appropriate.

  • Monitor electronic/online sources of information as necessary to accomplish assigned business goals.

  • Contribute material to Social Media Platforms as required.

  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:


  • Bachelor's Degree in business administration, marketing, or scientific field is required; Master's Degree or PHD in the Life Sciences is preferred.

  • Minimum of 2 years of Life Science product marketing or sales experience is required.

  • Experience with marketing communications is preferred.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse and global community are essential.

  • Must be a strong leader with a bias toward action - able to move quickly and decisively; have results-driven orientation.

  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, and PowerPoint is essential.

  • Must be able to travel, up to 25-50% is expected.
