Baystate Health is seeking a Full-time Sr Director of Employee Relations
What You Will Do:
In collaboration with senior leadership is the head of the enterprise-wide employee relations function.
The Baystate Sr Director of Employee Relations overall responsibilities will include: defining the strategy, programs, policies and practices that promotes a positive and engaging work environment throughout the BH system and maintains an environment that supports an engaged and union-free workforce in the non-represented areas of the system. Works pro-actively and collaboratively with operations and administrative executives, HR Consultants/HRBP's and staff to identify and address any potential or actual issues that could undermine the overall objective of a positive and supportive work environment. Is responsible for the effective management of all employment litigation across the system and for ensuring the system's compliance with all employment related regulatory reporting requirements resulting from federal, state and local requirements. Coordinate with the Staff Attorney, Employment on EEOC and MCAD cases and open litigation. In addition, is responsible for managing the dispute resolution process at all locations across the system including the training of Dispute Resolution Committee members.
Additional responsibilities will include:
Defines the employee relations strategy, programs and policies that will promote a positive, engaging work environment throughout the system.
In collaboration with Operations and Administrative Executives, designs and implements programs to assess the employee relations climate and to identify and address employee-management issues and concerns that impact the goal of maintaining a positive and engaged workforce across the health system
Prepare statistical reports, using records of actions taken concerning disputes, investigations, and complaints to identify problem areas
Works collaboratively with the entity leaders to develop and implement mutually beneficial employee relations strategies.
Responsible for the coordination with the Staff Attorney, Employment, for the management of all employment related litigation the systems employment law outside counsel. Also in coordination with the Staff Attorney, Employment ensures compliance with all regulatory agencies as it related to EEO and AA. Represents the system in related legal proceedings including MCAD, EEOC
Manages the dispute resolution process including training volunteer members of the committees
Works collaboratively with the SVP HR, VP, HR Business Partners and the VP, Engagement to create, promote and implement positive engagement policies, practices across the system
Provides on-demand coaching and instruction for operations managers and other HR staff in dispute resolution procedures including protocols, timely handling of complaints, proper investigation of complaints, employee and management right
Conducts employee relations programs for management and supervisors to minimize employee relations risk
Supervises 5-8 full time professional level staff and one administrative support position
Supports the VP HR Business Partners in the day to day management and oversight of system level employee relations.
What You Will Need:
Bachelor's Degree in Business, HR, Psychology or related field
5-8 years’ experience in human resource management, three years of which must have been in a manager or director level position.
SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) preferred.
Strong interpersonal skills. Builds relationships with staff, organizational leaders and staff across Baystate Health. Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively.
Demonstrated knowledge of labor laws, collective bargaining techniques and negotiation tactics.
Possesses the ability to work well with all levels of the organization from executive management to operations staff.
Demonstrated leadership and negotiation skills in leading a complex negotiation to successful outcomes
Possesses excellent presentation, written and verbal skills.
Action oriented with demonstrated ability to breakdown complex issues into action steps, clearly articulate a plan and execute effectively.
A self-starter who takes initiative and has a focus and a sense of urgency around achieving results, and builds consensus without creating prolonged processes.
Maintains a sense of humor, views learning as a lifelong pursuit, and enjoys being challenged by large/complex systems.
Demonstrated proficiency with Excel, Word and PowerPoint
