Job Description

Center Valley, PA or Southborough, MA- The Market Intelligence Department provides advisory expertise focusing on market and competitive intelligence within the business territory of Olympus Corporation of the Americas (OCA). The Market Intelligence Manager processes information on markets, competitors and strategically relevant topics and provide insights to internal stakeholders (Marketing, Sales, New Business/R&D, Management, etc.) in the Medical Systems Group (MSG) to make strategic decisions in a changing medical and surgical business environment. He/ She acts as a trusted advisor for the internal stakeholders at all levels and enables them to compete more successfully. The incumbent is responsible for managing a wide variety of primary/secondary market research and competitive intelligence projects and conducting comprehensive market and competitive analysis mainly for Surgical Business Units (Surgical Endoscopy, Energy, Urology, Gynecology, and ENT) with cross-functional collaboration with key stakeholders (internal and external). Job Duties:

  • Manage and conduct all phases of qualitative and quantitative primary market research projects (from writing RFP and vendor selection, to final presentation) to ensure that the projects can accomplish research objectives within the appropriate timeline/budget.

  • Work very closely with Marketing to identify their market/competitive intelligence needs and provide solutions.

  • Develop analytical market research reports and provides presentations that set forth conclusions and actionable recommendations.

  • Create and recommend methodologies to research requests and evaluates, selects and manages market research and syndicated data source vendors.

  • Provide relevant market intelligence to internal stakeholders.

  • Provide appropriate input relative to short-term and long-term marketing and business plan development.

  • Manage the market size and share estimation for key product categories.

  • Develop content for and responsible for the delivery of market intelligence related training.

  • Manage conducting data analysis using internal and external data.

  • Conduct market/competitive intelligence analysis using analytical techniques and approaches (i.e., SWOT, PESTR, Con-joint).

  • Perform a variety of managerial functions to ensure the timely and accurate completion of work within approved operating budgets.

  • Assist planning market research budget for the next year.

  • Plan and direct the activities of the Market Intelligence Staff.

  • Contribute to the development of the staff.

  • Collaborate with other Olympus affiliates as a member of the Global Market Intelligenceat Olympus.

  • Develop and monitor quarterly updates market research budget for assigned business units in MSG.

  • As a subject matter expert on market intelligence relative to the medical device industry, act as a central medical industry information source within MSG.

  • Perform ad-hoc research and analysis requests on a variety of projects for Olympus business priorities.

  • Perform all other duties as may be assigned from time to time by Management.

Job Requirements:

(ONLY QUALIFIED CANDIDATES WILL BE CONSIDERED)

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Business, or Statistics or equivalent degree is required; Master’s of Business Administration is desirable.

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in solid market research including primary (qualitative and quantitative), secondary research and market/competitive analysis is required.

  • Minimum of 3 years of medical device or healthcare industry experience is required.

  • Minimum of 3 years experience as project leader/manager is required.

  • Minimum of 2 years experience in people management/development is required.

  • Advanced computer proficiency in Excel, Access, and PowerPoint is essential.

  • Extensive knowledge of syndicated data sources, (i.e., IMS Health, Truven Health, MRG PriceTrack, etc.) is necessary.

  • Must have a good understanding of different market research techniques/methodologies in data collection.

  • Some knowledge of statistical analysis/financial analysis (SPSS/SAS not required, but desirable) is essential.

  • Must be self-motivated with high commitment and dedication with proactive mindset.

  • Excellent research skills are essential.

  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and manage cross-functional project teams is necessary.

  • Excellent verbal and written skills are desired.

  • Strategic and critical thinking and excellent analytical and problem-solving skills are essential.

  • Strong data analytics skills are necessary.

  • Must be detail oriented.

  • Ability to understand technical and clinical aspects of business is desired.

  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills are essential.

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally is preferred.
