PrismHR Senior Technical Writer in Hopkinton, Massachusetts

You will be responsible for writing and maintaining several types of user documentation including user guides, release notes, reference manuals, online help text, and instructions. In this role, you will gather, develop, and disseminate technical information among customers, engineers, support professionals, and other technical writers on the team.


  • Write and maintain topic-based and context-sensitive help using the team’s authoring tool while ensuring our established writing style and standards are met

  • Research and synthesize product information into technical documentation content by attending standups and interviewing Product Managers, User Experience Designers, other Technical Writers, and Subject Matter Experts

  • Leverage developer and project management tools such as JIRA, Confluence, Salesforce, and TestRail to understand issues and develop documentation output

  • Capture end-user and administrative tasks performed in our products and their expected results

  • Conduct peer edits and assist in further developing documentation styles and standards along with information architecture

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the documentation development life cycle and coordinate milestones as team and project needs evolve in our Agile environment

  • Report project metrics and impediments to Product Owners and Scrum Masters and use project tracking tools and resources to record them

  • Manage documentation drafts and the flow of information among teams during development and testing

  • Collaborate with teammates and act as a thought leader or SME for the Technical Documentation team in at least one advanced industry skill

  • With direction from Team Lead, act as mentor to Technical Writers

  • Participate in Agile development processes and influence process enhancements based on product/team needs

  • Collaborate with the Customer Success and Professional Services teams to optimize the knowledge base for both internal and external customers

  • Help maintain the team’s outstanding record of on-time documentation delivery


  • Manage multiple complex deliverables with varying priorities and deadlines within two-week sprints

  • Use revision and source control effectively within a team setting

  • Pursue job/career-related experiences and learning outside of the scope of assigned duties

  • Act as an ambassador of collaboration within and across the organization

  • Share knowledge in areas of expertise

  • Develop skills and serve as a team resource in at least one area of PrismHR


  • Superior oral and written communication skills

  • Fluency in Information Mapping® method or other research-based methods of organizing and presenting information

  • Technically curious and motivated to understand PrismHR functionality

  • Ability to prioritize while taking direction from the Team Lead and management

  • Proactive at removing impediments with a “get the job done” attitude

  • Flexible and able to work well under pressure and adapt to shifting deadlines

  • History of on-time, quality delivery in an Agile environment

  • Ability to quickly learn, analyze, understand, and communicate complex technical concepts in a clear and concise manner

  • BS/BA in related field such as Computer Science, Communications, English, or Technical Writing

  • Minimum 6-8 years of experience as a Technical Writer for complex software systems, preferably in SaaS or web-based environment

  • Proficiency with Madcap® Flare® or other online help authoring tool

  • Experience with accounting, payroll, or HR software is helpful, but not required
