Description

The Position

This role is a product manager opportunity that will be responsible for the commercialization of Software Support Contracts and Subscription based software product portfolio. This software product manager establishes clear business justifications for these software products, represents the voice of customers and sales to prioritize product requirements, manage product lifecycle, define value propositions, establishes pricing and discount policies across the software contracts and subscription based software portfolio and ensures quality products that meet customer needs are delivered. A strong understanding of software product management, software sales and software licensing best practices is required. Knowledge of mass spectrometry and/or related analytical technology in the life science industries is preferred. This role will require significant collaboration with IT, R&D, Service Sales and Marketing, as well as the LC/MS Business unit functions within SCIEX. The candidate will need to be able to work in a fast paced environment in a lean organization and must be willing to roll up their sleeves to ensure the job gets completed.

Main position objectives

  • Take ownership and drive decisions for Software Support Contracts and Subscription based software product portfolio
  • Work cross-functionally with IT, R&D, Service Sales and Marketing, as well as the LC/MS Business unit to support the execution of projects and manage the existing portfolio of products
  • Drive the stand-alone software business and develop new processes and workflows to deliver on the software business goals

    Responsibilities

  • Implement software subscription pricing models o Work with potential customers to identify approaches to recurring revenue generation that meet customers and business requirements o Define pricing strategy for each product line with a focus on recurring revenue o Gain support and approval for business strategy with executive management team o Work with development organization to define these models and write requirements for implementation into the software portfolio

  • Manage Subscription Products o Define and document orderable configurations o Communicate details needed for product ordering to internal stakeholders o Create and obsolete part numbers as needed for new and retired products

  • Support Software Sales Team o Work with marketing to prepare sales facing and customer facing collateral o Answer sales questions about product configurations/availability/pricing o Maintain up to date information on subscription/contract configurations

  • Manage Roadmap for Subscriptions and Software Contracts o Socialize roadmap and obtain input from relevant stakeholders o Create proposal for software subscription/contracts roadmap o Obtain executive approval for plan o Plan development activity with project managers o Launch new subscription and contract products

  • Manage key aspects of product commercialization to ensure success in meeting revenue goals o Project management of internal efforts required for product commercialization, including interfacing with Quality Management Systems, R&D, and related roles o Organize and drive activities cross functionally related to global product launch, including developing positioning, sales training, pricing and collateral development to ensure product launch execution o Determine if sales training and tools are adequate and complete post launch, and drive activities to fill any remaining gaps o Owns pricing and discounting structure for Software Support Contracts and Subscription based software product portfolio and coordinates with Sales Operations to ensure price lists and discount matrix are accurate and communicated to the field organization

Qualification

Qualifications

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in a Science, Marketing, Business Administration or related field; Master’s degree a strong plus
  • Demonstrated intimate knowledge of software sales or similar experience required
  • Knowledge of Mass Spectrometry or related analytical technology preferred
  • Ability to perform exceptionally in fast paced, performance oriented environment
  • Experience working in a global environment
  • Experienced influencer capable of managing large teams without direct management responsibilities

    Travel

    This position requires travel to customer and non-customer sites globally, with additional travel to trade shows and SCIEX sites (minimum 25%).
