Staples Senior Manager, Financial Analysis in Framingham, Massachusetts

Position Summary

The Senior Manager Finance Planning & Analysis provides analytic support to the Marketing and Own Brand teams and related stakeholders. In addition, the role will provide support for other key company initiatives and provide additional financial analysis as supported by the FP&A team.

Responsibilities include analysis, reporting and strategy development. Activities include developing key KPI’s, annual budget plan, monthly forecasts, and analytical support for key operating metrics, etc. There will be frequent and regular communication with cross functional departments. Role will be an advisor, partnering across management teams, to drive business insights, facilitate change and drive improvement for the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the following processes related to marketing:

  • Providing general and ad hoc analytic support to the marketingfunctions across channels and types of spend

  • Budgeting, forecasting and managing variable & fixed spend forRetail and online

  • Partner with Retail and Online Financeto ensure forecasting and reporting is accurate

  • Partner with the Marketing team toreview roadmap of spend and key opportunities

  • Act as a liaison between marketing,merchants and accounting

  • Manage the following processes related to Staples Brand Group:

  • Providing general and ad hoc analytic support to the Staples Brandgroup across channels

  • Provide insights into key opportunities and trends

  • Budget, forecast and manage category and channel trends

  • Partner with key stakeholders onaligning Own Brand results and objectives

  • Provide financial support across key initiatives

  • Think analytically, focus on the big picture, and be able to drillinto the detail and disseminate key insights

  • Strategic planning and development for key processes andinitiatives

  • Communicate related strategy, concepts efficiently and effectivelyto a senior executive audience

  • Quickly adapt to shifting priorities while maintaining focus onthe broader business

FunctionalKnowledge

  • Maintain an understanding of Finance concepts, methods, standards,principles, and technology; make sound decisions and recommendations based onthat understanding.

  • Ability to form strategy and apply a comprehensive knowledge ofcurrent and evolving best practices and industry trends

  • Serveas a Finance thought leader – build financial models that can predict outcomesreliably and accurately .

Management/LeadershipResponsibility

  • Manage team and work to address talent management, resourceplanning, etc.

  • Provide support, training, mentoring, and development to staff onan ongoing basis to ensure the department performs at a maximum level.

  • Guide and influence people, processes, and resources to supportthe best interest of the business.

  • Build trusting relationships with business leaders and partners

  • Responsible for proactively preventing problems as well asaddressing and independently guiding problem solving efforts.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, finance,or related field

  • 10 or more years of progressive finance experience

  • At least 5 years of progressivemanagement experience

  • Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with Business Unit,Finance partners, and Executive Leadership

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, excellent attentionto detail required

  • Advanced presentation skills for educating internal businesspartners on emerging trends for Service & Expense and presenting to the ExecutiveLeadership team

  • Exceptional planning and organizational skills to balance andprioritize work

Preferred

  • MBA or master’s degree in a related field.

  • Experience synthesizing complexresults into communicable insights.
