Sage Therapeutics Vice President Brand Marketing and Patient Experience in Cambridge, Massachusetts

General Scope and Summary

SAGE Therapeutics is searching for a creative, resourceful, integrative thinker for an important role that is responsible for driving the development and implementation of the brand marketing and commercial strategy for the CNS business. This critical leadership role will be responsible for setting and overseeing the execution of the product launch and marketing strategy for SAGE-547 in the US Marketplace. This is a multi-disciplinary commercial leadership role with responsibility for home office teams of marketers in brand, digital multi-channel and social media, PR, and patient experience functions. The VP of Brand Marketing and Patient Experience will also be responsible for the build out and leadership of a field based team of nurse educators and a home office support structure. Reporting to the Vice President of Sales and Marketing, this is a high-profile position with P&L accountability and the opportunity to make a large impact.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead development of US strategic planning (3 yr./1 yr.), including tactical plans and budget allocation for SAGE-547 and future portfolio

  • Champion Brand Strategy at the corporate level; ensure that the priorities and investments of the broader commercial organization are fully aligned and optimized

  • Design and build out new commercial functions in brand, patient/consumer, and digital multi-channel marketing and PR and nurse educator functions, clearly identifying critical areas of work, competencies and capabilities, roles and responsibilities, levels, structure, interdependencies and enabling processes and technologies

  • Lead the launch preparedness and execution of marketing strategies after regulatory approval for SAGE-547 SRSE and PPD

  • Develop the US Pricing Strategy for SAGE-547 SRSE and PPD

  • Develop commercial forecasts, prepare and manage a brand budget to support pre-launch efforts, and post launch commercialization activities

  • Review and assess US performance and implement plans to achieve corporate objectives

  • Develop robust lifecycle plans for SAGE-547 and future product portfolio

  • Conceptualize and develop unique multi-channel innovative promotional campaign across print, digital, events, mobile, social media, etc.

  • Provide direction and leadership for patient identification and engagement strategies and create framework for an end to end patient experience

Experience, Education and Specialized Knowledge and Skills

Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to develop important relationships with key stakeholders, good conflict management and negotiation skills, ability to analyze complex issues to develop relevant and realistic plans, programs and recommendations. Demonstrated ability to set a commercial vision and strategy for products and functional teams at the corporate level and translate and communicate with clarity into actionable plans; excellent analytical skills and an ability to communicate complex issues in a simple way and to orchestrate plans to resolve issues and mitigate risks.

  • BA/BS degree required. Advanced Degree in Business, Marketing or Life Sciences preferred.

  • Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in sales and marketing in pharmaceutical/biotech experience required

  • Proven, consistent history of high performance across multiple leadership roles of increased responsibilities in broad commercial functions including brand marketing and sales / account management; payer experience is desired.

  • Strong ability to translate vision into a direction that provides clear focus and prioritization to marketing, sales, operations, market access, and other cross-functional teams in preparation for launch and through successful execution is crucial

  • Proven ability to set brand strategy and manage business performance at a corporate level with P&L accountability

  • Demonstrated success at senior/executive level marketing leadership positions with significant product launch experience is essential

  • Experience with infused therapies and/or rare diseases is essential, women’s health experience is highly desired

  • Broad base of experiences in marketing, market research, sales, and/or medical affairs is important including experience in the hospital channel

  • Experience building out and leading new functional teams is needed
