The Head of GEM Marketing is the lead for US GEM Marketing. This individual is responsible for the GEM Joint Health and Renal portfolio strategy, financials, and investment plan to support the inline brand strategy and will play a commercial leadership role for NA GEM business development efforts as we continue to shape the NA GEM portfolio. S/He will is responsible for building US GEM commercial and marketing competency and lead the development and execution of long term and annual integrated brand strategy and operational plan for the Renal and Joint Health Franchises. This includes ensuring strategic alignment with the GEM Global and GEM MM organizational and brand strategy, leadership and development of the US GEM Marketing team and accountability for development and management of brand P&Ls to achieve profitability and growth targets. Reporting to the Head of the NA GEM General Medicine and Established Products, this person will serve as a key member of the NA GEM Leadership Team.

This role is responsible for building and executing innovative annual operational plans, as well as, managing the revenue growth and profitability of the business. This leadership role will lead the successful evolution of our portfolio toward profitable growth through the brand product life cycle. This will require strong leadership, strategic, market shaping and change management skills. Broad commercial knowledge and experience building, aligning and implementing cross functional strategic plans across marketing, sales, medical, access and payers a key success factor to the role. Knowledge of the US Market and innovation/entrepreneurial skills as asset in transforming the GEM portfolio toward accelerated and profitable growth.

Managing the business to optimal performance will require strong leadership, business development and exceptional commercial acumen and an increasingly productive and efficient organization. Additional challenges include the evolving U.S. managed care environment, increasing competitive environment, and increasing the organizations competency and capability to compete in a dynamic and changing pharmaceutical industry. Leading through change to strengthen GEMs leadership position by creating value for patients and customers is critical to this leadership challenge.


Marketing Excellence

  • In partnership with NA GEM LT and Global Brand Teams, lead US preparation for portfolio and brand strategic planning to ensure all elements of the annual operational plan are designed and executed with precision and excellence.

  • Inspire and motivate extended brand team (without direct line authority) to continuously strive for excellence.

  • Lead and build a high performance marketing and collaborative cross functional brand team culture and processes built on operational and organizational excellence

Strategy and Plans

  • Develop and deploy strategies to achieve business and brand life cycle management and annual brand plan goals, accelerate profitable growth, market share leadership and cash flow consistent with BU goals and the long term strategic plans of the company.

  • Responsible for overall Joint Health and Renal life cycle management, brand strategy, annual operational plans, financial planning, and investment mix

  • Serves as the primary US GEM interface and accountable for execution of the US GEM portfolio and brand strategy

  • Develop and lead the brand’s strategic & tactical business planning process

  • Lead sales and marketing teams to include a thorough and well-coordinated input into brand strategy and ensure close integration and flawless execution of marketing strategies and tactics across all functional HO and field partners

  • Proactively shape the customer and market environment, develop customer/channel marketing strategies based on deep customer insights to position our products and create value for company and our patients/customers, build account management capabilities to defend and improve our market position and depth of access by delivering strong, value based solutions to customers and stakeholders.

Deliver our Financial Commitments

  • Develop, manage and achieve sales, profit, market share and cash flow targets within agreed budgets.

  • Lead the forecasting & financial planning for US GEM Joint Health and Renal portfolios

Monitoring and Control

  • Establish annual business objectives and key performance objectives to effectively monitor and proactively adapt to optimize business and brand performance

  • Ensure operational efficiency and effectiveness of all aspects of the business. Manage budget to highest impact opportunities.

External Relations

  • Ensure promotional activities are in compliance with guidelines and regulations

  • Develop and strengthen strategic relationships with customers (e.g. physicians, group practices, pharmacies, KOLs and payors) to support medical and commercial activities in alignment with compliance guidelines to drive market leadership and position Sanofi as a partner of choice

  • Close collaboration and partnership with US One Sanofi team to ensure strength and value of Sanofi is optimized in the US market

People and Organization

  • Build a best in class commercial and marketing organization to become the most admired and respected leader in pharmaceutical industry while cultivating an inclusive high-performance environment that values and leverages diversity.

  • Attract, develop and retain key talent and establish GEM as a net developer and source of marketing and commercial talent within Sanofi

  • Define and execute training requirements and build commercial and marketing competency and capability of the cross functional brand and marketing teams

  • Build GEM MM culture for US region by creating an innovative and disruptive customer-focused culture


  • Minimum of 10 years of Marketing/commercial experience with prior brand leadership experience required

  • Deep understanding of Biosurgery and Renal market dynamics is preferred

  • Experience building and leading a pharmaceutical/biotech commercial organization within marketing responsibilities and successful general management experience preferred.

  • Has significant knowledge of the regulatory environment and has a proven track record of heading a brand, with responsibilities ranging from forecasting, creating and managing brand/operational expenses, managing a P&L, leading brand strategic & tactical planning, brand development (including positioning, strategic direction, and tactical execution) and demonstrate the ability to set accountable metrics for all aspects of the brand.

  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills

  • Extensive experience working with cross-functional groups, made up of the following: Marketing, Sales, R&D, Medical Affairs, Business Development, Market Research, Life Cycle Management, Finance, Forecasting, etc.

  • Proven ability to operate and influence cross-functionally

  • Proven leadership ability

  • Proven command of classic marketing disciplines and techniques and extensive sales leadership experience.

  • Demonstrated success in commercial planning, launching, aggressively growing and managing products through their life cycle.

  • Strong key account management skills. Extensive prior experience establishing and managing relationships with key customers and other important stakeholders.

  • Proven skills in communicating changes; managing design and implementation; applying innovative thinking; aligning plans, people and processes.

  • A strong business orientation and the ability to view issues from multiple functional perspectives.
