Sanofi Group Head, NA Oncology in Cambridge, Massachusetts

The Oncology Business Unit Head, North America reports to the North America Head of Multiple Sclerosis, Oncology and Immunology and is member of the MSOI Management Team. The role is responsible for delivering business results in North America through leadership and management of US commercial efforts for the Oncology product portfolio. The Oncology BU Head, North America will be responsible for leading a team to execute on the existing Oncology portfolio and upcoming product launches and ensure strong leadership to a field organization to support sales in the competitive marketplace.

The key priorities of the Head of the NA Oncology Franchise include the following:

  • Develop and execute North America commercial strategies, tactics and action plans to guide and support In-Country commercial efforts and new product launches. The plans will be developed in collaboration with Global Marketing.

  • Provide strategic leadership on high-level projects, including new product launches; major educational or training symposia; development and expansion of the key opinion leader group; major market-development programs involving cross-functional teams and disciplines; and due diligence and acquisition activities as needed within the region.

  • Analyze, develop and execute processes for streamlined communications among Oncology Business Unit and Support Function management, including Clinical Development and Medical Affairs. These processes should include coordination of Business Unit responses to North America issues as well as mechanisms to appropriately escalate identified challenges for timely resolution.

  • Support the conduct of primary market research to gain a clear understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing the region in order to guide decision making for local operating companies.

  • Coordinate and support North America market interests and events, including regional market access and government affairs functions to address pricing and reimbursement and expand or consolidate market access and sustainable funding; regional thought leader development; and congresses and symposia at regional levels.

  • Advocate for North America to ensure fulfillment of any of “unmet needs” that would improve performance and business results.

  • Partner with the regional Commercial Effectiveness function to conduct training and/or coordination of training and mentoring for sales and marketing teams in the necessary product, clinical, selling, and competitive positioning skills and abilities.

  • Support on-going product training and disease-state education to ensure development of strong clinical knowledge throughout the Oncology sales teams.

  • Support regional Oncology Medical Affairs function to coordinate commercial and medical activities to meet the needs of stakeholders in the region.

  • Coordinate activities with related North American business units to maximize output and realize synergies

  • Manage direct reports to create an environment to challenge, motivate and develop team members to reach optimum performance and potential. Oversee the North American Oncology business unit organization, and maximize available resources across the Oncology products.

  • Remain up to date with global benchmarking and best practices within the Business Unit and ensure effective communication and learning across the International markets.

  • Lead development of annual North America Oncology budget and participate in the roll-up and negotiation of annual In-Country budgets; monitor and help to manage North American Oncology BU operational and financial performance in partnership with regional business leaders on an ongoing basis, working closely with regional and BU finance personnel and reviewing key financial performance indictors regularly to proactively identify risks and opportunities. Coordinate and drive development of the North American marketing and training operational plan and budget, coordinating with the Global Brand leads and prioritizing activities to successfully meet financial and operational objectives.

Experience

  • 15+ years’ progressive leadership experience in the biologics space. Depth of experience in Oncology TA as well as US P&L responsibility. Proven market maker experience and or market disruption experience a plus.

  • Minimum undergraduate degree. MBA and M.D./Ph.D. preferred.

  • Demonstrated excellence in strategic planning and executing against a plan.

  • Relevant, strategic experience with the complexities associated with global health systems.

  • Strong leadership, communication and motivation skills; ability to “mentor the business” and manage cross functional teams from concept through to life-cycle management, encouraging innovation accordingly; results-oriented and able to motivate and inspire teams to achieve stretch goals.

  • Demonstrated success in developing leadership talent through coaching and mentorship; ability to maximize contributions of key players.

  • Must have proven track-record of success working across functions in a dynamic market place

  • Strong depth of KL development and sales leadership experience
