Harvard Divinity School (“HDS”) is a non-sectarian school of religious and theological studies that educates students both in the pursuit of the academic study of religion and in preparation for leadership in religious, governmental, and a wide range of service organizations. HDS is seeking a strong program director who will be responsible for ensuring overall success of the HDS pilot executive education program. The director manages the program’s entire life cycle including: program design, needs assessment, partnership with faculty to generate ideas and support for the program, collaboration with communications and marketing agency, oversight of admissions process, program delivery, all program logistics and evaluation of program effectiveness. The director will work with HDS and Harvard faculty and staff to create/implement a strategy for a program that maximizes faculty development, educational impact for participants/sponsoring organizations, and financial contribution.

This is a part-time (17.5 hours per week) 18 month term position with possibility of extension. Weekly hours will increase immediately prior to and during the time of the executive education program.

Position responsibilities:

  • Represents Harvard Divinity School and Executive Education to all faculty and program participants; prepares public presentations and meetings in a professional manner; organizes all reports and data for faculty chair(s) and senior director.

  • Supports efforts to recruit faculty and defines the target demographic and admission criteria for open enrollment programs. Leads development of marketing and sales outreach strategy; coordinates with marketing agency and communications team. Strategy may include direct mail, recruiting meetings, and/or sales visits to target groups.

  • Develops strong working relationships with faculty and staff associated with the program; regularly informs all stakeholders of all major program related activity and/or decisions. Collaborates closely with HDS departments supporting the program.

  • Completes a thorough analysis (including enrollment numbers, program highlights, participant issues, performance/success of program, processes and procedures, etc…) and makes recommendations for future executive education options.

  • Manages all aspects of admissions and enrollment process, including faculty admissions decisions. Works with the Communications department to coordinate marketing/communication strategy and processes with prospective participants.

  • Directs all program operations, including all aspects of logistics, faculty relationships and curriculum development; takes lead in anticipating and resolving all issues.

  • Coordinates HDS staff that support the program, and develops constructive and effective relationships with collaborating departments.

  • Establishes the overall timeline for the program, and ensures that all tasks are completed as needed – coordinating the efforts of faculty, staff, and supporting units.

  • Maintains a high level of professionalism and focus on customer service. Seeks to exceed participant expectations whenever possible.

  • Exercises full financial management and oversight of the program. Develops program budget; strives to achieve financial goals. Responsible for all program spending, catering charges, lodging, etc. Identifies and troubleshoots any problems as quickly as possible with Finance Office.

  • Fulfills all required reporting processes, including financial reconciliation and the program review process.

  • Tracks and complies with any external reporting requirements; for example, with third party payers.

  • Contributes to the improvement of programs and department processes and procedures.
