Job Description

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, COMMUNICATIONS AND EVENTS, Resource Development, to lead the teams responsible for creating and implementing communication strategies, programs, and events that articulate MIT’s fund-raising priorities with messaging that reflects the culture, values, and achievements of the MIT community; celebrates the generosity and involvement of MIT’s alumni and donors; and engages and acknowledges donors in the most thoughtful ways. Will lead and mentor staff; assign and direct projects and oversee day-to-day operations, including budgets, hiring, performance management/development, etc.; cultivate a strong, team-oriented culture of accountability, with a focus on creating best-in-class experiences for donors and internal partners; advise the vice president for Resource Development on communications strategy; develop and implement methods for coordinating Resource Development communications planning and execution other areas of the Institute to ensure consistency and leverage resources and relationships.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: bachelor's degree; ten years’ progressive communications experience delivering proven strategic communications; two years’ experience supervising a large communications staff; track record of developing and leading communications teams and developing strategic communications plans and programs for large, complex organizations; wide-ranging expertise and experience with progressive use of digital and web-related communications; deep understanding of social networking and emerging web technologies; comprehensive understanding of best-in-class communications programs, mediums, and vehicles; superior oral and written communication skills; demonstrated ability to build relationships with and advise people at all levels of an organization and to direct outside business partners and service providers; proven expertise as a strategic thinker and implementer; ability to keep multiple projects moving forward simultaneously; ability to influence, build a case, and market it to others; and collaborative and collegial leadership style.
