Job Description

ENGINEERING AND MEDIA LABORATORY LIBRARIAN, MIT Libraries, to serve as an expert on research, teaching, and learning practices related to Mechanical Engineering, the Media Lab, and selected other engineering departments and interdisciplinary centers. Will provide instruction and design learning experiences addressing research practice, information and data management, and key issues of the global, digitally-networked information ecosystem; offer support throughout the full research cycle; develop an outreach program to facilitate the success of varied research endeavors including local/global collaborations, interdisciplinary teams, industry or grand challenges competitions, online learning projects, and original student research; facilitate/foster collaborative learning communities and scholarly communities of practice; engage in resource selection and contribute to library collection development initiatives; gather and analyze information vital to the success of MIT Libraries’ strategic initiatives and innovative service design; and lead or participate in department and system-wide initiatives, teams/task forces, etc.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: MLS/MLIS or advanced degree in engineering or related field; substantial relevant experience in engineering research support, teaching, and working with science or engineering communities of practice; familiarity with or willingness to learn about and support interdisciplinary needs of scientists and engineers; ability to develop and maintain outreach practices and relationships that support initiatives, student research, and innovative teaching practices; ability to lead change, contribute to the development of new organizational structures or models, and design and implement new services; familiarity with a range of current trends in teaching, e.g., experiential or problem-based learning; and familiarity with trends in science and engineering, e.g., interdisciplinary and global collaborations, translating research into practice, open science, reproducible science, and open access to data and research.
