With direction from the Content Delivery Manager and in collaboration with Acquisitions Editors/Content Strategists, ensures the on-time and complete delivery of competitive content for first or revised edition products—with focus on compelling electronic formats and functionality--that meet market needs and are designed to drive usage and grow market share. Manages content delivery of assigned projects from signed contract stage through transmittal to production or other vendor, incorporating new processes, e-workflows, and technology as appropriate. Is primary contact for authors, editors and contributors throughout publication process. Ensures database and metadata completeness and on time delivery, digital-only asset delivery, and oversight of all projects in process for current year and publication pipeline.

Main Activities and Responsibilities

Project management

Ensure all assigned projects meet delivery milestones and delivery (content) expectation; focus on ensuring current year frontlist is delivered or exceeded and balance with publication pipeline management and milestone deliverables to delivered all projects to expectation. Working with Acquisitions Editor(s), book contributors, authors and editors, and production colleagues, raising red flags as required and collaborating on problem solving with the AE/Publisher as required. Track and manage a large number of projects at the same time. Ensure each stage of project life cycle including delivery of author/contributor/editor instructions and editor/ contributor payments, material from contributors and marketing questionnaires are delivered in a timely fashion. Serve as day-to-day author/contributor contact addressing all questions and concerns regarding manuscript preparation, illustration creation and delivery, permissions, etc. Manage book ancillary packages, companion websites, and multi-media components. Using standard reporting practices communicate progress with all titles to Delivery Content Manager/AE/Publishers as processes dictate. Prepare and submit final pricing and final costs for all books. Author, editor and contributor relationship management

As primary ERC contact for all content providers throughout the product development and publication cycle, including-post publication, proactively manage relationships with main book authors/editors, editor teams, and contributing authors to secure TOC, contributor lists, and submitted content on or ahead of schedule, across all assigned titles. Balance delivery expectations within a title and across all titles, to ensure content is secured at the proper milestones to enable publication. Focus on balancing customer (author) satisfaction with Elsevier and requirement to delivery content, emphasizing the benefits of on time publication for authors and content consumers in interactions with tardy authors. Apply a variety of approaches to secure content and address author delivery concerns. Triage to secure content for most urgent projects first, balanced with longer term delivery planning to avoid late and urgent mitigation in the downstream publication pipeline.

Sales & Marketing Support

Work with marketing and editorial to prepare Advance Title Information, and secure author marketing questionnaires. Create cover design briefs and work with design, editorial and marketing to create and revise covers. Assist sales team regarding content questions, publication dates and translations.

Data Integrity

Maintain data as required in the internal project tracking databases (EMSS, PPM). Ensure all project information including marketing metadata is entered into systems according to the project schedule. Monitor systems for reprints and coordinate corrections for reprints with production. Be equipped to be/become a Power User of our data management system. Create new product records and maintain data as required in the internal project tracking database.

Functional and Technical Competencies

  • Excellent Project Management skills

  • IT skills – developing strong knowledge of in-house systems

  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc)

  • Managing of schedules within a complex workload

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experiences

  • Education to degree level or equivalent

  • Relevant work experience in a similar role

  • Excellent communication skills – written and verbal

  • A good level of numeracy and data handling skills
