Job Description

DIRECTOR, PROSPECT DEVELOPMENT, Resource Development (RD), to direct and manage the three units making up Prospect Development--Prospect Identification, Individual Prospect Research, and Prospect Management. Will develop a strategic plan that best positions the office to provide products and services to meet the needs of MIT's fund-raising operation and contribute to its success. Responsibilities include setting and monitoring progress to goals and ensuring quality control and accuracy of work products; working with senior leaders of MIT's development teams to assess their needs and with the Prospect Development professional community to stay abreast of best practices; meeting regularly with the executive director of strategic information management to set and monitor unit goals and productivity measurements; and designing and implementing a range of strategies and projects aimed at expanding and refining the prospect pool. Will also be responsible for team performance management and motivating the best possible performance from team members. This includes setting clear quantitative and qualitative goals, providing regular constructive feedback, discussing growth opportunities, drafting annual performance reviews, rewarding good work/outcomes, providing guidance, and coaching.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: undergraduate degree; minimum of ten years’ prospect research and data analysis experience; four years’ management experience; one year of training experience; successful strategic planning and goal setting experience; demonstrated ability to lead and develop teams; strong writing and organizational skills; ability to analyze and synthesize data; some statistical analysis experience; ability to interact effectively with people at all levels of the organization; initiative; ability to meet deadlines and work under time constraints; strong commitment to accuracy; excellent judgment; and experience with computers, preferably Macintosh, and standard office software (MS Office).
