Overview:

The role of Director of Employee Communications will lead strategy development, planning and facilitation of all internal communications to Akamai’s growing base of over 6,000 employees around the world.

This individual will be responsible for helping to foster Akamai’s internal brand and culture, and will be charged with tailoring communications befitting a multi-cultural, multi-language, diverse, and globally-dispersed set of employees.

Reporting to the Vice President of Corporate Communications, this role is responsible for creating a comprehensive and business-aligned communications strategy for managing and coordinating engagement and communications between Akamai executives and employees. This will include an assessment of existing internal communications practices, as well as the development and execution of a new and evolved internal communications program that can be rolled out globally. This individual will build the execution plan to foster Akamai’s culture across the employee base, driving engagement in employee events, and ensuring global consistency of employee messages across all offices.

As the Director of Employee Communications, working closely with all departments across the company including Senior Management, Human Resources, Corporate Communications, IT, Web Marketing and Creative Services, you will:

  • Assess current business objectives and how they align to employee communications

  • Create and gain acceptance on the development of a comprehensive employee communications strategy

  • Create an implementation plan for leveraging communications tools, social platforms, and consistency/process for internal message development

  • Partner with HR on communications to help drive major business transformation projects such as annual cycle programs; manager/director efficacy; employee engagement results; and diversity communications

  • Additional tactical components will include:

  • Develop and manage content for the Company’s intranet.

  • Establish the right set of social tools for employees to exchange ideas with each other, as well as with the Executive team.

  • Help to drive the agenda and production of internal quarterly All Hands meetings.

  • Work with the Akamai Communications, Marketing and Human Resources teams to ensure all relevant information is communicated internally in a timely manner.

  • Help to coordinate and manage internal meetings between executives and employees.

  • Help to establish Akamai’s community affairs function by communicating to employees on ways to get involved in their local community.

Required Education and Experience:

  • 12+ years of relevant experience and a Bachelors degree or

  • 10+ years of relevant experience and a Masters degree or

  • 7+ years of relevant experience and a PhD or

  • Equivalent professional experience

Required Skills

  • 12+ years experience in employee or internal communications at a medium to large-sized business

Background in PR, marketing, writing in the technology services industry (public company experience is preferred)

Desired Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, PR or marketing fields preferred.

  • In-depth understanding and familiarity of social media and internal communication tools.

  • Experience in writing for the marketing of high tech solutions/products.

  • Ability to work effectively on multiple projects in a fast-paced team environment.
