Candidates MUST meet the following basic qualifications to be considered for this role:

  • A minimum of three years of work experience in a writing, marketing, producing, or communications role, or related transferable experience;

  • Excellent writing and multimedia skills; Ability to adapt voice and tone to audience.

Additional Qualifications and Skills:

  • BA/BS in a related field

  • Experience developing written and/or multimedia communications for digital marketing channels;

  • Proven experience using marketing communications to drive higher levels of digital engagement across a wide variety of channels, especially social media and email; Must be able to think strategically and integrate strategy across a variety of marketing channels;

  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or other social media creator tools as well as proven experience creating engaging and original mobile video content strongly preferred;

  • Experience in writing marketing copy for social media (and preferably email)

  • Experience overseeing content creation for social platforms including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram; Demonstrable success building engaged community across social networks;

  • Adept at using social media management platforms, listening, and analytics tools (Sprout Social) strongly preferred;

  • Strong project management, partnership building, and interpersonal skills a must; ability to cooperate and collaborate with a variety of constituents with multiple interests and varying levels of authority;

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail;

  • Able to work independently and part of a team with an ability to function effectively in a highly complex organizational environment;

  • Must possess and regularly use sound judgment.

Position Description

  • Creates and manages the posting of a broad array of digital content including, but not limited to, written social media posts; Instagram reels; social media video; marketing email copy; and digital newsletter content; plans and schedules content through a platform like Sprout Social.

  • Helps to manage Harvard University Press’s social media presence across Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube with a collective following of more than 560,000; Supports growth strategies for social media following and engagement across multiple platforms. Demonstrates confidence and judgment in representing Harvard University Press on digital channels;

  • Manages marketing schedules and day-to-day implementation of audience engagement strategies, including curating the Press’s content, posting/responding on social channels, and in emails and email newsletters; Identifies new ways to talk and engage with academics and general readers online;

  • Develops and maintains deep content knowledge about Harvard University Press’s books and authors, serving as a resource for the Press’s overall content strategy and monthly newsletters;

  • As needed, supports marketing operations and project management needs by helping to manage book data in Biblio and social media editorial calendars;

  • Manages Harvard University Press’s social listening strategy, staying on top of all references and mentions of its books and authors across social platforms;

  • Provides social media coverage at events that may occur outside of standard office hours;

  • Evening and weekend work on Harvard University Press’s social channels is occasionally required.

  • Other duties assigned.

Harvard University Press (https://www.hup.harvard.edu/) seeks a full-time digital content producer responsible for creating and sharing content across all digital marketing platforms (social media, email, web, audio, text messaging) focusing on social media communications. This content includes long and short-form marketing writing, written social media posts as well as video and reel content.

The Digital Content Producer is an excellent writer and communicator with a strong background in developing social media and other digital content for marketing and editorial purposes and using storytelling to drive digital engagement. This position creates much of the content for the Harvard University Press social media accounts, with a collective following of 560,000+, disseminating compelling messaging—both written and multimedia—to a global audience, driving digital audience engagement with Harvard University Press’s books and authors, and aligning social strategy with the Press’s overarching content strategy.

This position requires a strong command of digital marketing principles and excellent communications skills with a demonstrated ability to drive engagement through digital channels and develop thoughtful content strategies to promote Harvard University Press’s books.
