Massachusetts Institute of Technology Curatorial Associate in Cambridge, Massachusetts
CURATORIAL ASSOCIATE, MIT Museum, to assist the curator of architecture and design in a range of initiatives in collections development, management, and access; exhibitions curation and installation; research and publications; public programs and education; reference services; and supervision of interns. Will assist in the acquisition of collections and prepare inventories; rehouse collections and perform basic conservation; catalog and contribute metadata; carry out digital imaging and postproduction file management to enable online access and maintaining digital surrogates; research and write various types of documentation; provide support in the preparation of loans; assist with the planning and organization, research and curation, and production and installation of exhibitions; research and prepare collection and exhibition catalogs, essays, etc.; supervise volunteers and temporary staff; organize and present public educational programs; respond to reference requests from the MIT community, researchers and the general public; respond to email, telephone calls, and in-person inquiries and image and reproduction requests, including the preparation of all permission and use agreements.

REQUIRED: three years of curatorial, archival, etc., museum or collections experience; a B.A. in a relevant subject area; excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to develop effective work processes, coordinate multiple projects simultaneously, and maintain precise and careful records; excellent interpersonal and written and oral communication skills; ability to work collaboratively within the collections/curatorial teams, with Museum staff as a whole, and with faculty, students, and the academic community; and the ability to lift archival boxes weighing up to 35lbs.
