Asst Scientific Editor - Developmental Cell

Developmental Cell is seeking a full-time scientific editor to help us publish thebest research in cell biology and developmental biology. We are looking for applicants with strong communication skills and research experience in one or more of the topics published in the journal. A stronginterest in development of review material for the journal would be a plus. As a member of the editorial team, you would:

-Assess submitted research papers

-Oversee the peer review process

-Establish relationships with researchers

-Recruit exciting research

-Commission review content

As a scientific editor, you will also represent the journal and Cell Press at large at scientific conferences and research institutions, where you will directly engage with scientists and keep abreast of recent scientific developments. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to broader Cell Press initiatives to shape the future of science communication.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in relevant discipline, with post-doctoral experience preferred.Previous editorial experience is not necessary (training will be provided). Applicants with additional professional expertise such as running a research group or working in industry are also welcome to apply.

  • Broad scientific interests and a desire to learn. As a scientific editor, you will need to have a strong understanding of the diverse areas covered by the journal and the conceptual questions that drive different fields, as well as be open to exciting emerging topics.

  • Great interpersonal skills. Collaboration and networking are core aspects of the job.

  • Strong ability to communicate clearly.

  • Strong ability to organize, prioritize, and focus.

  • Interest in digital communication and publishing trends.

  • Creativity, willingness to experiment, and desire to improve.

This is a full-time in-house editorial position, based at the Cell Press office in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Cell Press offers an attractive salary and benefits package and a stimulating working environment. Applications will be held in the strictest of confidence.
