Ability to tactfully handle sensitive situations with discretion.Able to manage competing priorities and timelines while bringing initiatives to completion including the development of processes, milestones, and timelines.Ability to navigate in a decentralized environment.This position requires ability to work full-time on-site and the ability to travel across campusAdditional Information:This position is designed to be flexible (Assistant Director - grade 58/Associate Director - grade 59) depending on qualifications of the successful candidate.Must provide a writing sample up to 10 pages, preferably one that demonstrates critical thinking and analytic skills.Department:H-OAP/UDSPre-Employment Screening:Education, IdentitySchedule:Mon. - Fri. 9am-5pm (35hrs./wk.)Job Function:General Administration Duties & Responsibilities:University Disability Services (UDS) provides leadership to University efforts to ensure an accessible, welcoming work and learning environment for individuals with disabilities while ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations. The Associate Director provides leadership across the University liaising with colleagues in the schools whose emphasis is on student accessibility. UDS serves as a central resource on disability-related information, procedures and services for the University community and provides expertise in the development, implementation, and acquisition of standard disability-related University practices, procedures, and resources.Reporting to the Director of UDS, the Associate Director is a seasoned and dynamic subject matter expert who provides leadership providing guidance and process directly to the local student disability coordinators at each school and to other University partners for compliance with the ADA, Section 504, and other federal and state laws.Serves as the subject matter expert in ADA and 504 compliance as it relates to students with disabilities in higher education including best and common practices for academic needs including but not limited to intake processes; medical documentation; educational technology; clinical and study abroad offerings; effective communication; student housing; student social spaces and animals.Liaises and establishes partnerships with the student disability coordinators to strategically position each school and the University to meet the accessibility mission and compliance obligations. Provides leadership, builds consensus, and provides consultancy to address the student reasonable accommodation process across a decentralized environment.Purposefully shapes the dialogue for collaborative engagement to advance accessibility efforts with all stakeholders.Customizes messaging to meet the needs of the intended audience.Analyzes practice, process, and resources to address student accommodations across the University to inform decisions on best processes, resources, and training needs.Coordinates and collaborates with the local disability coordinators for students and other points of contact for other educational coordinators such as: Executive Education, event planners…Conducts fact finding and resolution of student disability discrimination complaints in collaboration with the Director.Prepares and compiles reports related to UDS implementation, University disability-related trends and resource utilization, unmet needs, and emergent issues.Monitors University accommodation expenditures and develops fiscally prudent recommendations that ensure timely, consistent accommodations while maintaining good stewardship.Develops and coordinates UDS trainings including online educational opportunities.Regularly advises the Director regarding any negative impact.Represents the Director and/or UDS at meetings, as necessary.In collaboration with the Director provides supervision, professional development, and performance management of all UDS staff.Provides guidance in sometimes complex situations while maintaining positive relationships with partners.School/Unit:University Administration EEO Statement:We are an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, gender identity, sexual orientation or any other characteristic protected by law.
