This

position is a commissioning role within Elsevier's Reference Content group,

with responsibility for acquiring new book projects and related electronic

content.

The

Acquisitions Editor

  • workswith colleagues to develop the strategic plan for the publishing program,

  • recruitsappropriate authors and editors, and commissions new book projects andrevisions in line with the strategy,

  • preparesproject documentation, and presents projects to the Proposal ReviewMeeting for approval,

  • managesa books program that delivers on schedules and financial targets,

  • buildsa strong network within the global Materials Science & Engineeringcommunity,

  • attendsrelevant conferences and meetings, travelling internationally whenrequired.

The

successful candidate will play a key role in the planning and publishing of a

high-profile electronic and print publishing programme for professional and

academic markets. No specialist subject knowledge is required, but applicants

should be comfortable working with science and engineering content.

Applicants

should demonstrate:

  • relevantpublishing experience,

  • somecommissioning experience (or be able to display an understanding of thecommissioning process),

  • strongwritten and verbal communication skills,

  • excellenttime management and organizational skills,

  • stronginterpersonal skills, in the areas of teamwork and persuasion/negotiation

  • ahigh level of computer literacy, in particular a good working knowledge ofMicrosoft Office applications,

  • educationto degree level (or equivalent)
