Your Team:

In this role, you will reports to the head of Product and System Communications for Philips Lighting Professional Systems. As part of a global team, you will collaborate and coordinate closely with multiple technical authors in multiple locations as well as all functions within the business operation.

Your Responsibilities:

As a Technical Writer, you will create various forms of technical documentation for hardware and software products, with a focus on software products. Examples include: User Guides, Quick Start Guides, Application Guides, on-line help, etc. The content should be in line with the development goals of the business using language that facilitates easy and accurate multi-language translation. In addition, you will maintain consistency within the content of a product family and across product families of similar design while ensuring that all content adheres to company tone of voice, product branding, and style standards.

Your Challenge:

Using your passion for technical writing, you will leverage your expertise in preparing English language end-user information. You will represent and advocate the interest of multiple customer audiences – from novice to advanced – ensuring jargon-free, understandable information. You will be a part of a team who leads the way in connected lighting products, systems and services, leveraging the Internet of Things to take light beyond illumination transforming homes, buildings and urban spaces.

The lighting industry is in full transformation. Conventional light sources are rapidly replaced with electronic light sources (LED) and this has enabled the use of digital technology to connect and control lighting and increase functionality in a way that was never possible before.

Skills, Abilities and Knowledge Needed:

  • Bachelor degree, preferably in a technical area

  • Strong research and information gathering skills

  • A background demonstrating technical competency

  • Sound experience in technical writing in the English (American) language (a minimum of 3 years), ideally within an R&D and manufacturing environment.

  • Experience in working as part of a software development team utilizing Agile methodology with a focus on the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) principles.

  • Possess ability to develop content to facilitate easy and accurate multi-language translation.

  • Ability to maintain consistency within a product family and across product families of similar design. Ensures that all content adheres to company tone of voice, product branding, and style standards.

  • Proven ability to write complex information in a clear and succinct manner, including step-by-step processes.

  • A self-starter who will use their initiative for continuous streamlining and improvement of current processes to move towards best practice

  • Effective time management skills. Being able to work on multiple projects simultaneously, under tight deadlines.

  • Experience with component authoring systems, content management systems (such as AuthorIt) as well as with Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, and screen capture tools required. Adobe InDesign experience a plus.

  • Well-developed interpersonal skills to build and maintain strong professional relationships with peers and customers

  • This is a full time position and located in our Burlington, Massachusetts office.
