Lahey Health Associate Director, Prospect Management & Research Services in Burlington, Massachusetts
Responsibilities Position Summary:
Reporting to the Director, Prospect Management & Research Services in the Philanthropy department, the Associate Director, Prospect Management & Research Services is responsible for identifying, researching, and analyzing prospects for major gift cultivation and solicitation. The Associate Director plays a critical role in prospect management activities and provides expertise and guidance on best practices for prospect pool and portfolio maintenance.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to:
A. Works closely with the Director on portfolio management and prospect management activities
B. Conduct portfolio reviews and analysis with a focus on principal gift staff
C. Develop and maintain working relationships with frontline fundraisers
D. Provide expertise and guidance on best practices for prospect pool and portfolio maintenance
E. Ensures prospect management policies are maintained and will provide training when necessary
Research/Data Collection/Analysis F. Conduct biographical, business, and financial research on Trustees, Board and committee members, and other high-level individuals, as well as boards, corporations and foundations, using a variety of online services, databases and other public information as well as internal sources.
G. Identify, obtain, and interpret detailed financial and legal disclosures including corporate reports (10K, proxy statements), foundation tax reports (IRS 990-PF), and state, county, and court documents (corporate records, assessment records, probate cases)
H. Analyze research information and evaluate a prospect?s financial capacity, ability to give, willingness to give, charitable interests and connection to the organization
I. Support the Senior Vice President of philanthropy?s research needs
Verify, update and record various types of information in Raiser?s Edge database
Prepare Confidential Materials
A. Prepare confidential research briefings, in-depth profiles, and event bios for members of development staff and senior leadership team.
B. Responsible for maintaining updated profiles and information on all current Lahey Health Trustees, Board and committee members
C. Proofread/edit materials to ensure information is complete, accurate and presented appropriately
A. Develop strategies to ensure that newly identified prospects are presented and assigned to fundraisers in a timely and competent manner
B. Proactively and independently plan and execute strategies to identify sources of major gift support for fundraising initiatives
C. Analyze new and existing donors and prospects for potential major gift prospects
A. Serve as a project lead on special research initiatives
B. Contribute to success of the research team by assisting with training and serving as a mentor to research staff
C. Identify opportunities to utilize advanced research techniques and sources to enhance the quality of research data and materials produced. Work with leadership to investigate, plan and implement new products or procedures and best practices
D. Run queries, exports, and/or reports as needed to extract data/information from Raiser?s Edge database
E. Collaborate with colleagues across all Philanthropy units to achieve department goals
F. Attend and participate in team meetings, department meetings, organizational meetings, and/or professional webinars, seminars, or conferences as needed
G. Other duties as assigned

Perform all other duties as needed or directed to meet the needs of the department. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor?s Degree required
Licensure, Certification & Registration: N/A
A. 3-5 years in a fundraising department of a non-profit organization preferred
B. Experience in internet-based prospect research tools and techniques required
C. Familiarity with Raiser?s Edge, ResearchPoint, Lexis Nexis, Foundation Center, Donor Search, Foundation Search, iWave, SharePoint and/or Omatic products preferred
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
Demonstrated ability to think critically and analytically in order to initiate and perform complex analyses.
Advanced analytical skills and ability to interpret/analyze complex financial and legal disclosures, technical and trade documents, including court and tax records, annual reports, SEC filings, and real property files.
Knowledge of current trends within philanthropy and healthcare.
Skill in analyzing and organizing information to identify philanthropic patterns, tendencies, and relationships among individuals, corporations, and foundations.
Demonstrated ability to conceptualize and develop proactive prospecting methodologies to support organization goals; identify prospects (through constituent list segmentation, push technology, electronic database screening, and peer/constituency screening and rating); and understand wealth indicators, including income (estimated or public) and assets.
Proficiency at supporting and participating in prospect management.
Excellent customer service skills.
Exceptional writing and oral communication skills.
Ability to prepare information in appropriate form for different audiences.
Demonstrated skill in writing and editing logical, detailed, and analytical reports that support planning and decision making.
Demonstrated skill in formatting data so that it is easy to read and understand. Knowledge of commonly used reporting formats for communicating information relevant to a request.
Knowledge of database systems and the types of data necessary to support constituent relations.
Knowledge of electronic sources available through the Internet.
Strong computer skills using Excel, MS Word, and the Web.
Ability to maintain a prospect tracking system
Demonstrated skill in information retrieval capabilities and protocols.
Knowledge of information available from county and state offices and other public and private agencies, both national and international.
Knowledge of principal biographical and corporate resources, databases, and other reference materials held by research libraries.
Ability and skill to exercise tact and diplomacy in dealing with others and to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
Excellent interpersonal skills to create effective collaborations among various levels of staff, faculty, constituencies across the university community to bring large scale projects to completion.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize work and independently manage multiple, diverse and competing priorities while meeting deadlines; plan and develop meaningful objectives; and integrate the work of prospect research into overall advancement office goals.
Strong problem solving skills and demonstrated ability to work under pressure.
Proficiency with the history of the university.
Knowledge of ethics statements by Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement (APRA), Association of Healthcare Professionals (AHP) and other appropriate associations.
Strong familiarity with software applications relevant to the advancement profession, specifically Blackbaud products.
Knowledge of the Prospect Research and Management industry and industry tools, including internet search tools, databases; knowledge of advancement best practices.
Exceptional skills in organization and presentation, critical thinking, data analysis, quality assurance, and problem-solving with associated experience in supporting fundraising campaign activities.
