The Office works with community partners to ensure that we fulfill our responsibility as both a good neighbor and a corporate citizen.Job Location: Boston, MAReq ID: 21670BRJob Summary: This position will work with the Environmental Sustainability Committee (ESC) and Office of Community Relations to actively promote sustainable practices, corporate social responsibility, and community relations across the medical center. This individual will support all sustainability-related initiatives, programs, and products. Responsibilities include eco-product vetting, supporting a variety of in-house sustainability initiatives, exploring and sharing best practices across the industry, and collecting data to measure the effectiveness of current in-house initiatives. The Sustainability Program Manager will support ESC and Community Relations in the development of the annual strategic plan and the integration of sustainability activities with BIDMC's Annual Operating Plan. Duties involve significant interaction with a broad cross-section of BIDMC employees and managers. The individual should have strong skills in change management, facilitation, coordination, collaboration, and communication.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Lead select sustainability initiatives. This includes redesigning current hospital practices to accommodate new programs.

  • Support the activities of the Sustainability Committee and Office of Community Relations, including keeping, monitoring and updating the strategic plan; maintaining accurate documentation of team minutes; preparing meeting agendas and other correspondence; and following-up with accountable individuals to ensure timely task completion.

  • Lead hospital-wide initiatives that target changes in individual behavior.s

  • Identify promising sustainability initiatives and assesses the cost effectiveness, technical feasibility, and environmental impact of various scenarios to assist in decision making.

  • Develop metrics for evaluating initiatives. These metrics will be used to assess new initiatives and gauge the progress and outcomes of those that have been implemented. Create and maintain quarterly reporting documents with metric evaluation.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Environ Sciences/Studies, Env Eng, Urban and Regional Planning or related field required. Master's degree in one of the previously named disciplines preferred.

  • 3-5 years related work experience required in the successful management of sustainability programs.

  • Experience managing projects and budgets.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of sustainability issues, metrics, and best practices, and a desire to promote sustainability.

  • Ability to effectively plan and coordinate multi-task requirements and meet objectives and deadlines (both provided and self-imposed) in a service oriented environment subject to changing priorities.

  • Advanced skills with Microsoft applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access and other web-based applications. May produce complex documents, perform analysis and maintain databases.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with strategic planning, project management, and marketing is desireable.

  • Written Communications: Ability to summarize and communicate in English moderately complex information in varied written formats to internal and external customers.

  • Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and communicate complex verbal information in English to medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.

  • Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of concepts, practices and policies with the ability to use them in complex varied situations.

  • Team Work: Ability to act as a team leader for small projects or work groups, creating a collaborative and respectful team environment and improving workflows. Results may impact the operations of one or more departments.

  • Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service to patients, visitors, staff and external customers in a professional, service-oriented, respectful manner using skills in active listening and problem solving. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.

Physical Nature of the Job:

Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Some elements of the job are sedentary, but the employee will be required to stand for periods of time or move through out the hospital campus
