The Connected Energy group at Shell is an integral part of Shell’s newly formed global New Energies effort. New Energies consists of Wind Operations and Business Development, Solar, New Fuels (hydrogen, e-mobility, biofuels) and Integrated Energy Solutions (power and renewables business development, connected energy, digital venturing and access to energy). While’s New Energies’ ways of working are still being developed, it aims to be a different type of Shell business as it will be more agile, risk-taking and fast moving.
Connected Energy’s vision is to enable customer choice and empower customers to lead cleaner, more productive, affordable, and more convenient lives by providing market-leading energy solutions. This effort will position Shell to capture value created by the increasingly distributed nature of the electricity grid, the emergence of cost-competitive digital and distributed (Behind-the-Meter) technologies, and an increase in customer choice.
The Connected Energy team is responsible for developing and delivering a portfolio of products, services and business models aiming to meet the energy needs of Residential, Commercial and Industrial customers.
This activity will support and enhance Shell’s signifcant power trading activities and aims to complement the existing sales and origination activities of Shell Energy entities (for direct sales to large customers) and their channel partners (Retail Electricity Providers). Today Shell Energy is active in North America, Europe and expanding their footprint in China, Brazil, India and Australia.
The Solutions Development Lead role sits strategically at the intersection of product management, marketing, policy, and business development.
Shape and own the solutions strategy for the Residential segment to competitively position Connected Energy for success and translate this strategy into a multi-year plan including the required resources for development and roll out.
Build a portfolio of new solutions working closely with Shell Energy and Retail Electricity Providers to understand their needs and the needs of their end customers.
Gather and translate ideas, opportunities and problems into use cases, working closely with stakeholders and customers, as well as other teams in Connected Energy and Shell Energy, to iteratively develop solutions that meet customer expectations and can be brought to market in a repeatable and scalable manner.
Select and develop partnerships with solutions and technology providers to deliver the integrated portfolio of Connected Energy solutions.
Ensure the product portfolio is aligned with Connected Energy’s long-term vision.
Build out Connected Energy’s solutions development capabilities through the use of Agile development principles and related methodologies like Scrum.
Work with Shell Brand International and the Shell Energy entities to scope out where and when the Shell Brand can be used on energy products and services.
Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field. MBA Preferred.
Minimum ten (10) years experience developing and launching new energy solutions, at least 5 years of which has been in the residential distributed energy segment.

Excellent critical and abstract thinking skills, combined with flexibility, resilience and the ability to thrive in a fast paced, entrepreneurial and collaborative environment.
Proven knowledge and experience with business models and technologies in the following areas: energy storage, automated demand response, VPPs, distributed energy resource management, grid services, smart/connected home.
Strong external network relevant to the distributed energy space spanning technology providers, Retail Electricity Providers, developers, etc.
Track record of building partnerships and working with service providers and Joint Ventures.
Experience with agile development principles and associated methodologies.
Experience in Retail Electricity is an advantage.
Strong external communicator across multiple platforms.
Regular travel, initially in North America but possibly also to other markets as the business scales and grows over time.
