This is a User Assistance role for online college-level products and services in the User Experience (UX) organization. The Senior UX Writer creates user interface text and developscontextual userassistance content for assigned products. Clear, succinct, engaging writing is a must.

The Senior UX Writer works closely with:

UX Designers, product managers, and other stakeholders to gain a technical understanding of assigned products and a business-level understanding of each product’s market and goals

UX researchers and other stakeholders to develop an understanding of users and their likely interactions with products

Other writers to understand and apply Pearson’s internal voice, tone, and writing standards

In addition, the writer researches industry trends and practices in educational UX writing and interface design to deliver state-of-the-art learning experiences.

Key accountabilities
  • Craft intuitive, consistent, clear, and concise copy, including calls to action, navigation, headings, button labels, tooltips, error/recovery messaging and transactional emails, and page-level contextual assistance

  • Collaborate with UX designers, UX researchers, and product managers to interpret design intent and provide appropriate copy

  • Be a strong advocate for users

  • Observe and participate as a stakeholder in user research, looking for user pain/confusion points, and iterate on content accordingly

  • Identify opportunities for content and strategic improvements, additions, and innovations

  • Evaluate across all touch points how the interface language and interactive learning design elements work together to construct a logical narrative for users

  • Work with cross-functional teams across multiple timezones; when needed, explain your rationale and incorporate user and stakeholder feedback in iterations

  • Diplomatically identify, address, and resolve differences between various stakeholders

  • Participate with other writers in the evolution of a consistent language, design, standards, and best practices approach

  • Digital change maker – Incorporate cutting-edge UX writing practices into products; be a subject matter expert to product teams

Qualifications

  • BS/BA Degree, preferably in Journalism, English, Communications, Creative Writing, Information Design, Instructional Design, or similar

  • 5 years of relevant work experience with at least 3 years writing web or mobile content, preferably for interactive user experiences

  • A portfolio of relevant writing work, demonstrating the ability to create clear, concise copy

  • Strong editing skills

  • Understanding of user experience

  • Familiarity with HTML editing tools, concepts, and the content generation process

  • Demonstrated ability to quickly grasp technical concepts and translate them into clear non-technical content

  • Ability to confidently liaise with technical stakeholders

  • Strong communication and organizational skills -- must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines

  • Agile or equivalent project management experience

  • Experience with digital educational content

  • Video creation experience a plus
