Duties & Responsibilities

Reporting to the Senior Leadership Giving Officer, the Senior Assistant Director of Development, Leadership Giving, will serve the primary purpose of increasing unrestricted leadership gifts to the HBS Fund from a specified portfolio of 250-300 leadership level alumni prospects within Harvard Business School. The focus of this position is unrestricted support with the goal of sustaining current success and ensuring the future growth of the School's high-end annual giving program. The Senior Assistant Director will be expected to perform the following essential duties:

  • Qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward Harvard Business School alumni/ae capable of making leadership annual gifts in the $5,000 - $100,000 range or more to the HBS Fund for Leadership and Innovation

  • Devise and implement cultivation and solicitation strategies, including ask amounts, and meet activity and revenue goals by planning, managing and maintaining an aggressive travel schedule with a minimum of 100 visits in specified regions annually.

  • Design and execute strategies to move assigned prospects through the gift cycle, with a particular emphasis on prospect qualification, retention, renewal, and upgrades.

  • Participate in execution of events and programs in support of development activities. Engage key volunteers and effectively utilize events and other activities to move solicitations forward. Conduct appropriate stewardship activities to further enhance the relationship between assigned donors and HBS. Initiate and maintain contact to promote positive donor relations.

  • Work with members of the newly formed HBS Fund Council in their regional fundraising efforts. S/he may be assigned to provide support to specific Council members and/or to support the overall coordination of Council solicitation activity.

Basic Qualifications

Minimum of 5+ years of progressively responsible fundraising experience is required.
