As the General Merchandising Manager, you will develop and implement the New Balance seasonal directed assortments, within specific direct and wholesale retail channels and key accounts, consistent with key brand initiatives and financial expectations. Drive the Go-To-Market process and execution, in cooperation with the Global Business Units, North America Sales and Brand/Integrated/Channel Marketing. Drive channel product segmentation. Drive model and style efficiency and eliminate product redundancy.

General Merchandise Manager Responsibilities

  • Drive the US product distribution and segmentation strategy and channel category mix.

  • Develop Seasonal Directed Assortments, from the Global Footwear product line, across specific retail/direct channels and key accounts, to support key brand initiatives and delivers financial objectives across categories, price and margin.

  • Develop Seasonal Directed Assortments to support Factory Outlet requirements beyond close outs.

  • In cooperation with GBUs, Sales and Marketing, develop best in class Go-To-Market process, timing and execution. Evaluate and implement seasonal introduction strategy. Define key merchandising touch points and function ownership. Ensure alignment within and across the GBUs to support key drivers and “Head-to-Toe” merchandising.

  • Develop seasonal story/product introduction timing and flow consistent with Customer Seasonality and balanced with supply capacity considerations.

  • Drive model and style efficiency; tighter assortments, eliminate overlap between GBUs and price points within GBUs, increase expectations within categories we compete – reduce non-strategic and/or non-high volume models, and increase style level expectations – tighten up excessive color options.

  • Develop mid and long-term channel product line-ups that clearly communicate model/style lifecycle.

  • In conjunction with the Global Business Units and Regional Merchandising counterparts, develop mid and long-term technology road maps (across categories and price points).

  • Identify gaps and opportunities in the range architecture and brief into the Global Business Units accordingly. Generate SMU requirements when considered appropriate or essential to meet or exceed commercial goals.

Key Metrics:

  • Track financial results by channel and key accounts against plan (annual budgets and 3yr OGSP targets); category mix, unit, revenue, net margin, ASP and forecast accuracy

  • Track product sell through and market share by channel (monthly)

  • Style efficiency (pairs (units)/style)

  • Directed Assortment; conversion, key driver adoption, model commonality, lifecycle management and seasonal flow


  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience.

  • Retail Experience (GMM/Sr. Buyer)

  • Position requires exceptional interpersonal skills. Ability to influence at all levels.

  • Demonstrated presentation and facilitation skills to all employees including senior management.

  • Proven product merchandising skills

  • Ability to coach, guide, manage and develop direct and indirect reports.

  • The ability to work collaboratively across the organization.

  • Fluent English speaking is essential
