Department Summary:

MITRE Accelerator is seeking a Senior Principal, Private Sector Collaboration to create the next generation of innovation with different industrial verticals in cybersecurity, digital health, biotechnology, transportation, AI, semiconductors, future connectivity, and climate, energy & environment.

This Business Development position will serve as a connector and lead the growth across the private sector (industry, academia, private capital) to realize an innovative ecosystem where barriers will be conquered, and technical breakthroughs will be born. These different ecosystems will serve as the foundation for driving the infusion of innovation into commercial and government solutions. This position requires an experienced leader who will connect the efforts of contributors across the ecosystem and MITRE wide to achieve sponsor and customer complex challenges.

Job Description:

Strategic Partnership Development / Private Sector Engagement

  • Identify and cultivate relationships with the private sector aligned with MITRE sponsored missions and technology priorities that create new business opportunities.

  • Collaborate with internal MITRE teams to develop strategic partnerships that enhance the growth and success of the MITRE Accelerator

  • Represent the Accelerator at industry events, conferences, and networking functions to build awareness and connect with potential partners to grow new business.

  • Organize and host events to showcase the achievements and capabilities of private sector engagement.

  • Act as a primary point of contact for the Accelerator to connect with private sector organizations, understanding their technology, market, and growth strategies.

  • Lead negotiations for partnership agreements, contracts, and other strategic collaborations. Work closely with legal, contracts, and finance teams to ensure successful execution of contracts and other agreements.

Business Growth

  • The Senior Principal will mature new business development opportunities for the MITRE Accelerator focused on sponsor impact and collaboration with private sector organizations. The candidate will work with Solution Leads to develop the technical scope, capabilities, and impact.

  • Manage the MITRE resources to deliver or collaborate with the private sector to drive new business opportunities and public good impact.

  • Conduct market research to identify emerging trends, competitive landscapes, and potential opportunities for the MITRE Accelerator

  • Analyze and assess the viability and market fit for inclusion in the accelerator program.

  • Create measurement plan, objectives, KPIs, tracking systems which may include financial review, pricing, fee structure, budget, R&D investment, etc

  • ID products, tech, markets, partners to continue, enter, exit.

Connector Culture

  • Help create connector culture at MITRE and model new behaviors to adopt.

  • Create external integration touch points such as campaigns with go to market team involving social media, advertising, web, and press releases for brand awareness, lead generation, lead nurturing, and sponsor/customer/member acquisition and retention.

  • Mature internal integration communications plan: announcements, email, intranet, event marketing, social, training portals

Basic Qualifications:

  • Technical experience in at least one key technology area with associated experience and/or related industrial sectors.

  • Keen awareness of the industry offerings and motivations, and the underlying technologies.

  • Documented success growing and mobilizing an organization from vision to successful realization – demonstrable new business wins .

  • Existing networks within the defense and government technology ecosystem is highly desirable.

  • At least 10 years of experience leading a technical program, organization, business area, or consortium.

  • Demonstrated track record of successfully delivering complex new business captures that require extensive coordination of multiple contributing organizations.

  • Strong understanding of government and commercial bidding and procurement processes

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and networking skills

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic startup environment.

  • BS and 10 + years of related experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience

  • Must be a US citizen capable of obtaining and maintaining a US government clearance.

  • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree (MBA, MS, or PhD).

  • Preference given to qualified candidates with active clearance.

  • Solid technical foundation in cybersecurity, semiconductors, wireless, or in one of industry verticals of MITRE Engenuity

  • Experience as a business development and /or capture management leader .

  • Extensive network spanning industry and government verticals
